Default Newbie Looking for advice on buying a wagon

Hi everyone! Im currently looking to buy a UK 2000 Turbo Wagon. Ther are loads on piston heads, ebay and auto trader and I could do with some help really as this is my first Impreza. Im looking for something fairly stadard engine wise, with good history and low milage if possible.

This car caught my eye. Could anyone advise me if this is priced correctly and what extra bit would be on it with it being a prodrive version? I notice the seats and wheels but was wondering if anything else is upgraded to prodrive kit?

Click Here and go to the 2nd page

There is also this one on piston heads, I have spoken to the guy asking for more pictures etc. but nothing as yet so I get the impression he dosnt really want to sell the car. Plus he has sold the wheels so it now sits on STi wheels.

Any help greatfull recieved.

first link doesnt work (just shows a blank page) - second link - looks like a nice car (sonic blue wasnt available in this country on a wagon, so this is an import - but at that age import or not shudnt affect the price..)
the second car looks after (de-tangod, foglight covers, crystal sidelights etc) worth a look

I have a 2000 wagon and luv it (also in sonic blue.....)

wow 2 miles on the first (green) one ! Bargain !

Price on both looks similar to what I was thinking for my '99 UK car, similarly reluctant to sell but only drive about 5-6k a year, so having 2 scoobs would be a luxury....

I'd have thought that the plastic drop links on a 9-10 year old car would have had it by now; mine with just over 40k were very worn, but not too expensive to replace with Powerflex / Perrin / Whiteline alternatives.
Also, most of the pistons on my calipers seized earlier this year, whilst the brakes still work, pedal feel disappears (I got 8 pot K-sports...).

If the seller is as meticulous as the ad, should be fine. Might be worth checking insurance on an EU import (UK ones had Sigma alarms, iirc). Just budget a little to sort out minor bits and pieces.

Also given the age, perhaps should have 2 cambelt changes ?

Sorry to disagree, but I think it is a UK wagon.

  1. Has front washer jets on the bumper (imports didn't did they?)
  2. Has SUBARU on the tailgait (again imports didn't)
  3. The dash layout is UK with the speedo in the middle and the rev counter to the right (import was t'other way round)
  4. It looks like the wiper stalk is the UK way round too from what I can see.

Maybe a respray??

Any info about the prodrive stuff on the green one?

Im going to look at this aloon today as its local and looks a good one. Its also the cheapest to insure as its the lowest power one i think.

The owner of the blue one still hasnt got back to me and im not chasing him any more.

Any advice on the white one?

Wouldn't pay £3800 for that car. Couple things put me off...
  • Has the earlier 2 pot front brakes, which aren't great. A set of 4 pots of the 99 S-plates and above will be about £200-300 on top.
  • Currently sorn, for how long though? Would things have had chance to seize up or anything?
The mileage (if legit) is a plus though. Maybe offer £3k as it's an Ebayer with no feeback and probably a trader, so they will want more than a private buyer.

Me, personally, if local go look, but I'd keep my options very much open.

Take someone knowledgeable about the brand with you too.

The milage is legit as it has extensive history. The last 9 years he has owned it it has been service at our local subaru dealership.

Ill have a look at it this afternoon but im still strangely drawn to the green wagon for some reason, think it must be the prodrive bits?

the blue wagon is not a JDM or UK car, its a Euro import.

the green wagon looks good and the Prodrive Recaros are uber rare and even cooler; I'd budget another £800 for some decent four pots and buy the green one

Does anyone have any info on what the prodrive package would have been from new. Am i right in asuming it would have been front seats, front splitter, exhaust, wheels and suspension?

Cheers.

Typical, the furthest one away but the green looks nice

The blue wagon according to the owner is a UK car and is mega rare, could it not have come into the country the same way my sonic blue saloon did through Europe??

Have you viewed the white one yet Adam??

Green one has got the prodrive 4-pots hasn't it? Or just the 99-00 4-pots?

the blue wagon is not a UK car; it's the wrong colour for the model year and it's not a JDM because it has headlamp washers; its a Euro import...

There were various Prodrive options available from new which would have been retro fitted by the dealer. There was a Prodrive WR Sport package but I've never seen that fitted to a wagon...however the WR Sport package did include those wheels and Recaro's. It's not one though because the trim is different and the clocks will be badged WR Sport

Just been to look at the white one and I must say it is truly stunning in condition. Full subaru servie history, lots of recipts and all old mots/tax discs. Its even had all the body services which im sure isnt always done! Dry stored for the last 9 years. It looks like its just come out the box!

Now i just have to try and beat him down on the price.

Sounds good...

How do you mean dry stored? Kept in a garage or not used for 9 years? You lost me, sorry

Well the purchase of the white one has fallen through as the oqner just wouldnt budge the extra £50 i needed. It was too expensive to start with really!

Now im back on the hunt, possibly going to go and see the green one even though it is miles away. Anyone got anymore info on what prodrive goodies will be on this bar seats and wheels?

Might have a look at these 2 as well while were out!

Page 5 halfway down page

Page 2 near the bottom

Any help greatfully recieved

If the seller says things like this:-

"there's no doubt this is a very rare car and I will truely regret it selling"

I simply walk away - because no-one sells something they don't want to (not if buying again at the same price!).

One line of bullsh1t = plenty of bullsh1t about to come your way!
