WRXS : Anyone have one? Reviews?
Hello
I've just been to look at a WRXS and it seems pretty good: The standard WRX is a bit too slow and the STI too expensive for what I want. So the 'inbetween' WRXS seems a great compromise -- helped by the fact that Subaru are doing a deal of £20700 on the road at the moment.
Does anyone here have one? Any reviews / negative / positive comments?
Thanks,
Steve

Drivers Republic website did a good test of the WRXS and lots of its rivals including a modded Focus ST, Civic TypeR etc.
The conclusion was that the best driver's car was the Megane R26R (or something - the one with no back seats and a roll cage), but the best overall was the WRXS.

If you don't mind a Japanese import, I think the Impreza S-GT is the JDM version; imported by Litchfield and 'tweaked' for UK fuel. It retains the tax bracket of the WRXS, and seems to do much the same with a 2.0 litre semi closed deck block (iirc), and a twin scroll manifold / exhaust / turbo setup which will eliminate much of the lag (having myself gone from a 2.0 single to a 2.5 twin scroll), but the equal length manifold will rob you of the burble.
Best of all, the power pack pushes it up to 300 :-)
If I were considering a new shape WRX, it'd probably be the S-GT...

I had a Japanese import years ago (WRX STI Type R (Model 4)) and would like a UK car now as it was too painful for insurance etc...
(although I'm old now, so expect it'll be cheap!)

Why don't you pop along to the gallery section 09/09 hatch section
loads of us on there for some opinions on the new modle at £20300 that is a ok price but....
have you considerd motorpoint who were doing an import one at £13 k aprox
Motorpoint - Search Results
that to me is an absolute bargain price 13k """ and now STis at 21k """
me well i looked at a STi from motor depot at hull for 23k which is basically a 330 spec without the ppp and is some 4 -5 k cheaper then uk spec sti and better value then a wrxs in my opinion
Me in the end went for a WRXd deisel there is only a few in the uk i got mine of stan palmers at carlilse give Ian a call and see what sort of deal he can offer you for a wrxs as he gives a top deal on subarus all over the uk
the WRXd is fantastic if your not sure ask stan palmers for a go intheir demo which is for sale now
I did and bought one 10 minutes later (and still kept my MY00 greenwagon Turbo as a weeknd car list price £20300 although mine had a few toys
I had the wrx out on demo last year great car very fast ,thirsty but i felt the springs were a bit soft for me and i thought might as well save up a bit more for the Sti then the WRXd came out .
the new hatch is fantastic machine we now have 5 in cumbrian scoobs and i counted over 25 at the NBO
Get one you wont regret it
look what Ken block does with them and if your not convinced pop over to the american subaru forum there is hunderds over the pond ""

Just had my WRX S for a week now it is in wr blue and looks the buis with the grey wheels tints and sounds good with the prodrive exhaust but not over noisey. Still running it in but feels pretty quick. Test drove the wrx but didnt like it , diddnt feel any quicker than my octavia vrs, then drove the WRX S and was supprised how much quicker and more responsive it was.

Indeed, but there's a good few thousand classic and 'neo-age' owners to convert to the hatchback cause. I still can't get over the blandness, but for something stealthy, a WRX S-GT would be my choice. Not that I can foresee a shiny new car for the next couple of decades...

I've test driven a WRXS and was very impressed with the handling and power on tap. Most of all I was suprised how refined it was, with the tinted windows, 6 cd player, and the QUIET Prodrive exhaust, yet it was a beast to drive. It also looks exactly like an STI without the (brilliant) flared arches and the (daft) quad exit exhausts.

must say was a bit dissapointed with the standard wrx, the look of the wrx s is far better with the front and rear sti spoiler, tints, and not that nasty looking crome grill not to mention the 18" wheels and prodrive exhaust .(Going down powerstation at the end of the month so it will eat the wrxs ) what you expecting from this???
13k sound a bargin tho!

Looked into the motopoint STI's myself, they were a bit dearer at the time but what put me off is even though they will be registered as an 09 car they are infact a year old and have only 2 years warranty remaining, they have been sitting around for about a year now, not sure how good mechanically that is for a car!
Anyway, whatever you decide you'll love the hatch!

Thank you for the replies.
I'm not into modifying things (or imports) these days as I just want a simple life.
The second-hand STI sounds tempting! I didn't think there were any around, but the place in Twickenham had a 14K miles one for £17K (unfortunately sold yesterday).

Subaru WRXS
I bought a brand new WRXS seven weeks ago at a dealership in Rochdale, price £19,091.84p for cash. It looks the business in pearl white and came with the STi parts still sporting their STi badges. The car has only been 1100 miles so I haven't tested it severely, but the engine flexibility, particularly in 5th gear is amazing, due to the increased torque which is only 2lbft behind the STi. There is a Subaru tuning specialist not far from me who reckons that he may get another 12 BHP or so and 20 lbft of torque by tinkering with the ECU, but he recommended that the car has a few thousand miles on the clock. Evidently Prodrive were instructed not to make the WRXS too quick as to affect STi sales. A bargain at the price methinks when you consider what some people pay £19k for these days.
