Cool

Okay so not too exciting...

Anyone know a decent place to get a towbar for a 5 door?

been quoted £158 fitted, but I want to fit it myself and pay less than that...
would rather save the money to put towards things like air filters and exhausts etc...

Anyone help?

Well, I got the detachable Subaru official one, yes, its expensive but its a good piece of kit (as much as a towbar can be!!)

But it bolts straight on (with the bumper off) and the electrics just plug in - everything there.

I fitted it myself - I would recommend paying someone to do the mechanicals - it was a bitch - but the electrics (which they normally like to charge loads for) are really really easy (30minutes tops) - as opposed to the mechanicals which took me 6 hours!!!!!!!!!! in the rain!!!

Motorists Centre supply and/or fit Witter Towbars, and the Yellow Pages is a good place to start for supply only as well. £150 is not a bad price thugh, best I could find was £120 ish fitted from a mobile fitter.

If yours is an jap import the fiting is slightly different and requires some modification to fit.

From memory the supply only price was about £100, so unless you can get a hefty discount I wouldn't bother fitting it yourself.

Even Pete would probably agree, that the job is worth £20-30

Yes, Paul, even tight arsed Pete would pay £30 to have it fitted

Im my opinion, at £60 to have fitted I would still get it done.

But the Subaru - detachable - is the bees knees cos it dont look like you have one unless you are actually towing (street cred and all that!! )

"best place to get a tow bar fitted"...

Preferably to the back....

On and on a volvo or range rover or something boring...definately no where near a scooby!

Taz, From experience always check that whoever is doing the fitting is not going to cut a piece out of the rear bumper. Coz if they do it'll knock the price when your selling. Ask to look in the manufacturers book. If a cut is required it will usually say in there.
