It depends on what you call new. A rebuild will set you back around 2-2.5k and then you have the option of upgrading parts, recon/second hand engines are a minefield and you can basically be throwing gour money away. New will probably set you back 4k.

cheers, just been considering it, its a choice recon or just put £3000 in to the engine and sort it, had two scoobs now been ripped off on both told the first was an sti running at 310bhp started having probs took to the clinic told it was only wrx it was only pushing 201bhp and the head gasket was gone, so got rid fast as adviced by them and brought this 1 ran fine for a week then the probs started, slowly starting to give up on scoobies

Your picking the wrong cars that's why ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
Vin plate checks (use the sidc faq section with all the model codes to see what the car is) but you shouldn't just buy the first car you see (saying that I did buy my type r after seeing her and having a good look around
) but if you don't know scoobs that well then take someone with you who does ![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Lots are advertised as something they are not, or made to look like something they are not (also check the v5) but lots of trash out there, ragged and poorly maintained ones which go pop![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

Suggest you get in touch with David at APi mate. Buying a recon engine can be a minefield; plenty of cowboys out there!
It's one of those things that's gonna cost I'm afraid, so you need to get the job done right and pay once!
Good luck, mate!

Where are you mate? You should have a local group to meet up with and get advice from. As said SIDC is always good for the more serious and mature advice you need.
Loads on here will help and spend your money on the right stuff. I bought my current Scoob with 93k on the clock but it's got eveything from the original Import Sales Invoice (it was a brand new grey import), V5's, garge receipts for all work done, MOT's etc.
There are good one about but you ahve to look. David @ API is a good start, not cheap but give quality advice and their work is excellent.
