95ron in a 2.5 STi
Hi guys,
Considering a return to scooby ownership and I have found a 2007 non PPP Hawkeye STi.
I viewed the car tonight and it is a nice car, Few small pressure dents but easy to remove.
Having grilled the owner I asked him what petrol he used in the car, He informed me that he has only ever used 95ron standard pump fuel.
In my previous STi I used 97ron with octane booster as had quite a few mods, But I would have thought the standard STi even without the PPP would still require 97ron at least.
The car also has a an uprated exhaust from the down pipe back but otherwise is a standard STi.
Any suggestions??
Cheers
JJ

I think it will say use 98 RON on the filler cap. Prodrive recommend "continued use of 97 RON for best results". ECU should detect knock and reduce ignition advance and/or boost to protect engine, OE maps are very conservative hence the spectacular results of a remap. Car is probably OK but owner has missed out on some of the performance. Most of all I'd question the attitude that had him putting in 95 when it said different on the filler cap, what else has he done?

My 2006 STI Spec D achieved 340 BHP easily with decat and remap, would of gone even higher with more boost but I wanted a smooth very safe map, no need for a uprated fuel pump with the newage 2.5 litre not sure if you are going over 350 tho might need changing then ??

Why dont you just use a octane booster with the 95 rom ?

Decat and remap without a doubt. A mate of mine had his 06 STi PPP dyno'd at 291bhp before it was remapped. Slightly short of the 316 it says on the door shut! lol. It made 344bhp once mapped, without a decat

When I bought my non PPP hawkeye the dealer told me the 2.5 litre engine would run on 95 RON but to be honest didn't fancy risking it or the chance of lowering the performance. I'm pretty sure there was nothing on the fuel filler cap either.

I dont go mad with power etc and would love to know if anyone has decatted and mapped on 95's etc.

The boosters are about £10.00 a bottle I think, It will tell you on the bottle the mix ratio, depends on how many litres you are filling up with. Have you tried emailing simon from Jolly Green Monster (Mapper) he will know if you can map with octane boost with 95 rom.

As simon says you can map to any fuel, the octane booster I was using in my previous car was the australian NF (Nitrous formula)

The saving in fuel is about £200 a year but it's not the money, i guess having to use unleaded and octane booster will cost more than supper unleaded so the cost of driving is going to go up dramatically so if I can keep the same power or a little more with a re-map on 95 could be big saving. Any ideas if it would keep the same power, loose or increase if I decatted at the same time?

It was dyno'd on the road by JGM at 344bhp and then it was put on a rolling road where it came out at 340bhp, so i doubt 2 can be wrong. Its surprising what a good remap will do. . More than anything, the cars are so much more responsive after a remap.

Sorry to hijack this thread slightly, i am moving to NI in the new year, MY car has ben mapped for optimax and has full decat, fuel pump and ecutek by AF, last print out was 346bhp and 400 tourqey things.
Thing is they have no optimax in NI, what are my options???, they have bp ultimate i think.
Car is MY06 STi, peak boost is 1.5 Bar as well.
