Default WHICH BHP UPGRADE NEXT

Hi all,

Currently its an 06 Hawkeye STI Type UK.

Its been "prodrived" (uprated fuel pump, new exhaust sections etc.) while ago which supposedly gives it around 315bhp.

Was wondering what to do next, I don't wanna go much more than 350 cos I reckon the insurance will be excessive and I'm guessing much more than that and I may need to upgrade many other bits (FMIC, induction kit etc etc.)? I'm far from a Scooby upgrade expert so be gentle, please.

Oh and must still be road legal, emissions etc.

Any thoughts/ideas greatly appreciated

Cheers

You wont need to decat the downpipe as these have sports cats in there
Headers.... well they may give you some gains, your best bet is a remap, then think about monitoring, Defi's etc so you can see what is going on

Thx for that, I already have defis in the car oil pressure, oil temp and boost.
Would I be able to just do a straight re-map, what about strains on oil pump, gearbox?

Bearing in mind its already been prodrived what sort of gains could I expect with a straight re-map and No other mods. I always run on 99 octane (well very rarely anything less).

Hyperflow 70mm Cold air intake (£210), and change to an STi8 top mount intercooler (about £150), then a remap (again a couple of hundred quid- can be done with opensource so you don't need an ecutek license) should get you to where you want to be...

Exactly as I've done with my 2006 STi 2.5

Remap should give you 360bhp/400lbs torque there abouts, and no, it wont strain the oil pump or gearbox (clutch either) all are good for that

Opensource re-map? Is that something you've done yourself or is that done at a tuners?

Hyperflow air intake - is that like an induction kit?

What BHP u got from doing that?

Sorry if any of the above are a bit retardent?

Mapped by Andrew Carr in Preston, but many of the mappers are able to use the opensource mapping stuff. You could theoretically do it yourself if you knew what you were doing- I don't.

Hyperflow cold air intake - pulls cold air through an induction type filter that sits in the front wing- rather than a normal induction kit which would pull in warm air under bonnet.

The STi8 intercooler makes a reasonable difference too I'm told- the surface area of the hawkeyes I/C is smaller and worthwhile results can be had from changing.

I'm expecting somewhere around 370 but need to keep it safe and reliable.

I understand the induction kit stuff, thx.

OK - so whats the difference between opensource and EcuTek, is it just a licence thing? Is Ecutek better? Is opensource illegal or worse - dangerous to the cars management system?

Does anyone know anyone round Lincs area that does opensource, Ecutek is seems quite expensive!

And I should be able to re-map to around 360bhp without any additional bits and more importantly without damaging the engine.

Cheers

Andrew mapped mine again this morning with the cold air intake and STi8 intercooler... 372 / 385 at 1.45 bar.

Excellent job, once again

Why don't you spend your money on some suspension upgrades then you can really use all that 315 bhp.
