I bought my WRX with a SMR engine just fitted in it..... reputedley running 300 BHP ( according to the previous owner ) anyways... it runs just fine and I hope to get a year out of it before I have to rebuild it but being realistic I cant see it lasting long before it turns into a hand grenade.... after all I believe SMR engines are built to a price. Its not a route I,de recommend if I was after serious power mate

thanks for the input. i know i could get a better built lump else where but i cant aford to. SMR lump is a Easyer cheaper route. also an upgrade as im only a T2k so the extra power will serfice. nice to hear yours runs sweetly tho... its gotta be better than what i have now!! is your lump a SMR silver or gold unit mate?

The only difference between UK and STI regards the engine is...
pistons and cams

its a silver one lol.....
I too will be rebuilding mine on a tight budget when it goes "pop" and with carefull spending I,ve worked it out useing Wiseco forged pistons, steel H section rods and a new oil pump ( a new crank is £614 from Subaru) Cosworth or equevalent head gaskets and API head bolts I,m hopeing to get "away" with about 2 grand.... I,l still keep to 300 BHP too it wont be the most powerfull BUT it should be bomb proof

cool so it will fit on my Turbo 2000 box for now?? would help get the car on the road faster at less cost. i will of corse fit a STI box at a more financially balenced time.

cool, im going for the gold one... so hopfully it will last at least a couple years!! lol i looked at that re-build route also but id rather not build a turbo lump and start on the STI unit. if im gonna spend the money i mite as well have the extra power

you asked for advice! my advice do a search on here first for the company selling these engines, as there reputation is hardly golden!, its widely regarded that the engine you will get from WILL not have had any work done apart from a jet wash and a can of £1.99 alloy wheel silver, if you really are on a budget try and find a good engine from a breakers at half the price than what you would pay SMR.

P.S a my99 ecu will not fit or work in your car.
