Pulled over for apparently doing 88mph in a 50 zone.
Essex police who take all my council tax money for their pensions now want to take me to court. The problem I have is that this jobsworth on a motorbike was sat at the end of a dual carriageway. National speed limit. Aw no it's 50mph for the last 100 metres Mr Jobsworth copper said.
Get out and arrest some real criminals. I have lost all respect I have for any police. Waste of f*king time. Out to get money from hard working people. If they clock me in a built up area then fair enough, but this is a guy who waits for people at the bottom of the dual carriageway.
BTW I have no points on my license, I am taxed, insuranced, MOTed and work for a living. Guess that's the f~*king problem because if I have none of the above they do nothing.
Guess this bloke doesn't like the police interceptors.

I think the OPs point is the copper is waiting for people to enter the last 100m where the speed limit suddenly changes and I can see his point. However even if you were doing that speed in the NSL part you are still 18mph over. but we all speed at some point and I'm not going to judge
However if he claims you were doing 88mph in the last 100m then I would contest this. I'm assuming you stopped before the junction?? The reason I say this is that the average distance for stopping (excluding thinking time) from 80mph is 96m so to stop from 88mph in less than 100m would be near enough impossible, certainly abrupt to say the least. Just a thought........

Indeed .... 88 MPH on anything other than a Motorway deserves a public flogging IMO.
Sorry, you got caught, he was doing his job - which was traffic policing - he is not employed to chase 'real' criminals, just 'not real' criminals on the roads.
We all get caught once ..........

This anger at the cops is misdirected. It sounds like serious self-ownage/fail anger spilling out at the rozzers.

These threads make me laugh, yes the fuzz are being picky ******* and could probably be doing something better with their time but we all speed now and then and take the risk, at the end of the day if you dont want to be caught dont speed!

I didn't admit to anything. One copper, one gun there was a car right next to me. On the dual carriageway so I told him then it wasn't proof that my car was speeding. What's your day job traffic cop?

i think if you were doing 70 and slowing down for the end of the DC he wouldn't have bothered.
the last 100m is whats called in the highwasy industry, the buffer zone. You can;t be done for speeding in a road that short (except by fixed camera), so they use the lower speed limit before the end so people slow down before the restiction/junction etc, it realy does work.
but you were doing 88 in a 70 as said so even then you were breaking the rules, pay the fine and take it like a man im afrioad is the only real option.

60mph in an MX5? It would blow your floppy hair do all over and you would need to go and get your hair fixed again. Anyway, do women really drive that fast?
Have to say this is a silly thread. You'll get no sympathy on this one I wouldn't have thought unless of course the reading was wrong which would be a ****ter.

What speed were you actually doing and what did he use to measure your speed?
88mph in a 70 is pretty normal speeds around here but not in a 50 zone!
Got a google map link of the location so we can do a Snet judge and jury

surely if the speed limit dropped to 50 mph it would of been sign posted as such,
And what was at the end of the last hundred metres of this road ,single carriageway, roundabout, built up area, surely all would warrant a drop from 70 mph or the alleged 88 !!

Ignorance not resticted to SN either....I've had standing arguments with people swearing they're right and that I'm speeding...
88 in a 50's exessive sorry.. I know these new 50mph limits are a pain but most of the time it's for a valid reason (crash statistics, nature of traffic using the road ie tractors, horses etc).

If you go down the braking distance defence you had best be sure. Sounds like the sort of thing they put the countdown markers out for the /// // and / ones. That should mean a much bigger distance to stop and/or warning.

The bottom of chelmer road A138, Chelmsford. Really p!sses me off the comments of people on here. I wasn't doing 88mph fullstop. If I was guilty I would take it but I'm not. He was on the roundabout, where I stopped, and there were other cars around, next to me. He waited then about 30 seconds then decided to come after me. In the 30 seconds after he decided come after me god knows what he could have pointed the gun at.

The self righteousness of SN users that never speed and have therefore never been issued a speeding ticket is laughable but not unexpected. Just ignore them; most are probably posting to get a reaction. Hope this works out favourably for you

that's a fast pretty straight piece of open carriage way with good sight lines in both directions.

Well said that man

And it would still be illegal to speed on it. The only difference visibility makes is whether you also face a Due Care/Careless Driving charge as well.
As for the OP: was there a sign? If so, you were breaking the speed limit. If there wasn't you still were. As others have said: suck it up.
And yes, before you ask, I speed. And when I get caught I put my hands up and take it like a man, rather than like a spoilt five-year old.
