Default clocks 94 wrx

hi folks on my clocks there are 2 screw at the back to take the speedo part out of the clocks (cable driven) if i take it out and connect that part to my cable would it stop my car from going into limp mode as surely must still get sum sort of reading its just i made a dash and have nowwhere to put the clocks the now till i decide where am putting them dumb question i dont no

why would it go into limp mode with speedo disconnected on a 94wrx

Because the ecu takes a reading from the speedo and the gearbox sensor, with the speedo disconnected this signal is lost, hence after a short while the ecu will put the CEL on because of no speedo signal
