Question Importing a car...

Hi, I recently sold my crx and have been looking for a new car.
I've been looking for a import with boost but all the ones I've seen, I just get a wierd feeling about the sellers and the car And it puts me off buying it.
So I've decided to import a car. Either a Subaru off some sort or a Starlet GTT EP-82

I was just wondering if anyone knew off anyone who imports cars to order? I have contacted someone off this forum already, but they haven't really found anything yet.

Is there anyone who can recommend someone? Or even a company e.g. SVA Imports (I've tried contacting them to no avail)

Thanks

Hi Mate,

We are a start-up performance parts company who also deal in importing cars to order (although we are in no way new to it...) We have sourced many cars from Japan including Impreza 22B, R33 GTR, MR2 Turbo's and have gained many helpful contacts.

The website is a bit bare at the moment but we have just completed deals to supply HKS and Bee*R amongst others and it should be populated sooner rather than later.

Koi Performance

Send us an enquiry with details on which cars you are looking for, budget, colour/trim preferences etc. (mail me direct on chris@koi-performance.co.uk) and I can get back to you with a selection of cars to choose from, I'm sure we can find the right car for you.

Best,
Team Koi

6 years ago I used a company called JVS (AKA Powervehicles) near Edinburgh to get me my current WRX - they closed a couple of years ago but Powervehicles still exists as a Japan-based sourcing company and Andrew Gray is now out in Japan.
They were very good when I used his company - worth a try if you are interested in specifying something particular, especially non-standard.

Thanks guys!

I've given Yam a shout and they are currently scouring the auctions to see if there is anything that matches my criteria.

Also, Koi Performance. I sent a enquiry from your website, but haven't received a reply. I will send a direct email now just incase you didn't get the last one

Andyr - I'll have a look at Powervehicles now, and see if I can find any info on them or get in contact with them. Do you have any way off getting intouch with Andrew Gray?

Thanks for the relpys, will hopefully find someone to import me a car soon

For Powervehicles :
Home - Powervehicles.com - Drift - Grip - Drag - Street - all the best tuning cars in Japan
They seem to be most into modified cars but I'm sure they could source a car matching you requirements if you wanted to get one direct from Japan.

Neweraimports have always been well thought of too (never used them myself).

Well to start with I was going to go for a V4 sti but decided that I want to wait. Its like a dream off mine to own one, and I don't want to be let down by it
I'm going to wait another year or so to get one. It's something to look forward to
The car I'm going to get is a Starlet GT Turbo, the main reason being that its small and its got boost.

Thanks Andy, I'll give the website a look through now. I've been looking at NewariImports but I'd have to be stupid to pay the prices they want

Cheers

Fair enough - only thing I'd mention is to query whether buying a car now with the intention of moving on up to an Impreza in a year or so will be of benefit to you in the longer term :
I don't know what the Starlets are like but will you end up with a smaller pot of money for the Impreza when you end up spending money on it ? Repairs, mods etc for the Starlet.
If you wanted to not go for the main prize now then you could go for an early Impreza initially then see if you wanted to move to a later car (Sti, Spec C etc) if the reality is as good as you anticipated ?
Early classics are availalel pretty cheap and a good one should still be a solid car.

Hi, can i ask, i see you have to pay 10% import duty, and 15%vat. Is this charged on the price of the car and import fee, or just the car? I see the import fee is around £660 for the ro_ro ship.
Im looking to import a Forester, just trying to get an idea of the costs.

Thanks,Mit
