B&M about £153 and others selling for about £50, is the B&M better quality material and easier to use?

The idea of "easier to use" doesn't really apply here. Fitting is pretty much the same no matter what you get, and once installed, it's not as though there's going to any significant difference in stick feel.

Calling any of these things "quickshifts" is a bit of a misnomer really. They don't make your synchros work any faster, so the change doesn't get quicker time-wise, all they do is reduce the angle of stick movement required to make a shift - although the sensation of reduced movement "feels" quicker, while deleting the rubber bush that's on the standard gearstick can make it feel a bit more direct.

On that basis you could find many things to spend £150+ on that would improve your car in a more meaningful way. £50 odd seems like much better value.

sorry if this is a daft question, but by fitting a quick shift, will the gear **** be lower ?

by this i mean will the shaft on the quick shift be shorter than the original gear stick ?

if so then are all quick shifts like this or just certain makes ?

cheers nick

Are you talking about what I said at the bottom of my post? If so, the bush I was referring to is the one inside the standard WRX gearstick shaft.

Some of them are shorter than standard, some aren't. The irony of shortening the gearstick is that if the **** is further away from the steering wheel, it takes your hand a little bit longer to move down to reach it, thereby making the shifting process slower. Kinda defeats the object of something sold as a "quick shift"!

ah right, im not bothered so much about it enabling me to chage gear quicker, but a mate of mines car has a real stumpy gearstick, just wondered if a quickshift would give the same effect in my scooby

Well, after all that, (Splitpin) I don't think I'll bother. I just thought it might be nicer to drive with a shorter throw.

I have a B&M quickshift fitted to my P1 box...the different angle does reduce the throw so makes for a nicer more positive gear change.

just spoke to a few people who are selling them on ebay, i asked them what lengths they were, most were 250mm long but a couple were only 160mm long, the ad said the short ones were for an 04 but are they right ??

just seems odd that they can be that big in difference of length ?

cheers

can't comment on the cheap ones but they are usually cheap for a reason...

Utaka have you driven a car before and after installation of a shift?

B&M all day long. Good quality and it does shorten the throw significantly, allowing for more accurate, quicker and more 'snicky' gearchange. One of my favourite mods. Can't say it significantly reduced the height of the stick (the old idea of taking a hacksaw to your stick has a habit of cropping up in this kind of thread). Good mod imho.
