Default mot test question to all scooby owners

last time i had the car motd the guy doing the mot said they needed to take the car out for a drive as its all wheel drive as part of the test , is this right or did he just want to drive my car

im planning on taking to the same garage so i need to no

if they dont have the ability to test awd on the brake tester,that would be corect if they only have a single brake tester they can not test 4wd they would have to take it a drive to test it,steve

yes they have to test the brakes on road by using a tapley meter/Decelerometer
to measure the efficiency, they literally only have to go to the end of the road and back, and not via the chippy.

mine did the same and when i asked why they told me and showed me the meter which he had to dust off lol

Yep, they take it out ..... my last MOT he was gone for about 10 minutes!

10 minutes, bit excessive! The first MOT I had done at a local Halfords did it in the carpark, the next one on the road outside the garage and the most recent one had me drive it.

My local garage do this as they cant test AWD cars on their equipment.

Yes they used this device when i had mine MOT, only they just drove it in the car park, slammed on - job done.

My MOT tester knows I wouldn't dream of driving it at less than 100%.... he did back it off the ramps and brake fiercely (sp) just to be sure.

I always set the boost controller to "off" (wastegate boost control 1 bar) and tell the guy that I'll know exactly what he's been up to via the PS13 meter! As you can tell, I have a morbid distrust of (almost) everyone in the motor trade!

Mine is in today with a guy I know. I have made a point of saying only he can do this test and not the 20yr old chav he works with.

last mot i had done the guy did it in the carpark, got a bit of a shock when he headbutted the windscreen after applying the brakes hard

opps forgot to tell him about the k-sport calipers and bigger discs
