classic emissions sky high
Hi guys my 95 jap import mot emissions off scale 9.99 ,had new plugs ,it has lambda sensor in rh front header ,and 1 in front pipe ,but only header is connected ,just wondered if both should be connected ?,,any ideas ,could it be that someone has turned fuel up to far ?

It's probably had an after market down pipe fitted, so the one in the down pipe will be the working one.
I had a similar problem, giving 8.27% CO, the oxygen sensor had failed.

The working sensor on a 95 JDM car should be the one in the RH header! which is why you can't find the wiring for the one in the downpipe...It's not there.
Subaru didn't move the wiring to the downpipe until 1996.
Just a thought.... you say that you have a sensor in the downpipe and you have a cat fitted (your cntr pipe is not a cat as has been stated previously) is the sensor at the top or bottom of the downpipe?
If you have a factory fitted downpipe then the sensor will be at the bottom and it is not a lambda sensor, it is a "cat on fire" sensor which is only fitted to the JDM models & can be disconnected without causing any problems.

Yes mate you are spot on with info ,so do you think if i fit a new lamda sensor in the rh header it should be ok ,i have been trying to find out today that ,uk cars run a 12 volt lamda ,and some jap imports run 5 volt lamda ? dont know how true this is ,have spoken to subaru parts today ,they were contacting factory to see what to do ,he mentioned that like you say 1 is a lamda ,and 1 a oxy ,or cat on fire sensor ,i removed exhaust to day its got a original front pipe with sensor in the center of the cat ,that bits ok not connected ,but there is a second cat in the center of the car honey comb center and very heavy ,and the hangers dont match the car ,have checked the part no of this and its off a 2005 scooby ,so thats not right ,so have put front pipe std cat back on ,and a straight through system ,so hopefullly the dealers will come with a sensor tommorrow ! many thanks we shall see

The 3 wire LS02 is what you require.
Just Lambda, Suppliers of Bosch and NTK lambda sensors including zirconia and titania sensors by post
Don't be tempted by the cheapo's on ebay, they are a waste of time and money

Morning..
The info you have been given on the Lambda sensors is correct.... The early Jap Imports ran a different voltage sensor to the norm, until 1996 when things were rationalised and they all started to run the 12v items as per all other cars.
You also need to be careful as there are two types of lambda sensor fitted to the early cars.
If you want the Subaru part number of the sensor fitted to your car then I can get this for you from my Japaneese parts program if you give me your vin/chassis no:
