What do I need to do? Battery off? Anything else?
It will be sheeted over against weather, etc.
It's going off the road due to big-end failure until I can decide who to take it to, what to have done and afford to pay for it all.
Any advice welcome.

leave the car in gear and dont use hand brake. reduce the brakes getting stuck.
when i have ever left cars for a period of time, i use wd40 over all the rubber gaiters and bushes etc even all over the engine and engine bay area.

If you want to get **** about it you can change brake fluid for DOT 5.0 which is what they use in museums. I think it is silicone based and stops everthing gumming up (or just leave it in gear).
Also if you are sheeting it, put something soft like a blanket on it first. Plastic sheeting may blow and move in the wind and damage the paint-work.
Leave a small air gap by winding down windows a tiny bit. Stops damp and mildew forming by giving it air flow (I didn't do this one on an old Fiat Uno Turbo ie and the seats went furry!!)
Good luck with the re-build, hope you get it sorted soon!

If there isn't room to move it back and forward now and again to avoid tyre flat spots, or the tyres go down quickly, take the wheels off and prop it up on axle stands.
Mine has been off the road for 2 years and its been fine just moving it back and forward. In fact I've not had to put any air in the tyres since they were put on in 2004

dunx
P.S. Also jump in and push the clutch pedal once a month to stop that sticking.... trickle charger is another option if the alarm is "live".
