remote central locking
Hi seems a daft question i know but when i viewed the wrx 53 plate i am picking up tommorow the doors did not unlock with the button on the key now im not familiar with subaru central locking ,is it suposed to unlock by pressing the fob or by the key being placed in the lock ,the dealer is a reputable firm and only deals in prestige and performance cars and told me he sort it but i just want to know how the central locking/factory imobelisor alarm should function so i know he has sorted it , im guesig the fob requires a new battery.
Cheers phil

I don't know about the newer ones but my 98 legacy, the sensor is near where the rear-view mirror mounts and you have to have clear line of sight to that for it to work - only works from relatively close up.

I have a sigma alarm fob that also locks / unlocks the doors. Therefore the buttons on the key are never used and the battery will be dead. I parked on a slope once where the alarm wouldn't operate and took about half an hour to clear the crud out of the keyhole to be able to lock the car

It would have a Sigma alarm, an S30 I beleive.
If I'm correct, the immobilsiation is in two stages (like the late classics), the first is in the transponder chip in the key, thats linked to the ECU, the second part is immobilsed by the alarm fob, that must be immobilsed before the engine can start.
The only other way to start is to use the key manually, and then enter a pin code on the alarm pad near your right knee when in the drivers seat. If they are doing theat, then perhaps it just needs a new fob (35 odd quid) and a reprogram (free via this site)

Update, seems the previus owner had a clifford alarm fitted that overides the factory standard system then removed it when he part exchanged it without reactivating the standard alarm, anyway the guys where i got it from have it booked into the auto-electrition at there cost to sort it so i can lock-unlock on the fob .
