Default what bits should i get for bottom end rebuild

i have a 95 wrx import and a year ago i rattled the engine on it and have now got round to trying to sort it i had it up at the garage and its damaged the crank and i'm not sure weather to replace like for like or is it worth gettin a better crank and any other bits so make it more realible and strong so i don't have problems with it again . it was around 320bhp before hand with full exhaust . de cat pipe. fmic 440 injectors apexi fc , will it just end up going wrong a year down the line again or should i upgrade the bits i'm on a really tight budget but a local garage said they can do it if i get the bits... so any help on what bits and where from would be great could i get the right bits on a £1000 budget or isn't it worth spending the money on just a 95 wrx
thanxs

To rebuild your engine properly you're going to be looking at around £2000 upto you if you think it's worth it. You have to wonder though as i have seen some really clean looking classic STI's for under £4000 recently.

Stick it on ebay you'll be surprised on what people pay my best guess would that you'll get 800 to a 1000 for it maybe more. Then start shopping around for an STI

Ideally the rebuild is the best answer. Doubt you can rebuild within your budget using paid labour. New crankshaft around £500, shells £100, gaskets £200, modine £100, labour? But you can do it if you do it yourself.

You can pick up a used motor for around £500, as long as you know the history. No more risky than buying any used Scooby.

Or you can break it and use the money to put towards another car, as already suggested.

You pays your money and takes your choice, as they say.

You got it

There are plenty on here who have taken a car for a test drive and still blown the next day. Proves nothing, history is as important as condition.

Even more who buy untested engines which turn ou to be a pile of crap weeks later when fitted.
Go ahead buy the untested but personally a good hammering on a test drive is better than no test at all.

So you have the money to pay for a rebuild on a car worth less than the rebuild. Good for you. What do the rest of us do?

Buy 3 engines, 2 are dud. 1 works, still 500 cheaper than an average rebuild.

As said before, you pays yer money etc

And if you bother to read the whole post I was outlining his realistic options. ONE of them was to buy a used engine. What do you suggest he can do with a £1000 budget....?

Well Im not sure tbh, I felt it was transmission somewhere, clutch, flywheel or box itself but when describing the symptons to a few knowledgable types bottom end has been mentioned a few times. Knowing they are prone to go makes it easy to put two and two together.

I havent been able to get someone to look at it yet but will know better soon enough.
