Import service intervals

Just reading this week's Autocar and there is a small paragragh saying that parallel imports from Europe will need to be serviced every 7500 miles as opposed to the newly introduced 10000 miles on every uk supplied car. The Subaru spokesman says this extension to 10000 miles is only a Uk thing and EU cars have to stay with what is valid from the supplying country !!
Just another way to f*** the people importing. Why cant Subaru just accept importing and take them onboard - they could make a huge amount of money.

Took my belgium sourced MY02 into Robinsons (Rochdale) last week for its 1K service - they told me that I would have to bring it back at 7.5K to keep the warranty because it is IM who underwrite the UK 10K warranty themselves, not Subaru. I'm sure there is more to it than this. It seems that IM are doing everything they possibly can to stop importers apart from REDUCE THE PRICE.

Agreed Fazack. I actually wrote to Chris Chilton at Autocar a couple of weeks ago about this - so it may be my fault that the article has appeared.....

Can't agree with you. Subaru uk support uk dealers, and have decided upon 10000 miles service interval. Subaru Benelux support Dutch/Belgian dealers, and if their interval is 12000km (approx 7500 miles) then so be it. I can see no reason why Subaru Benelux should underwrite what another body chooses to do, at cost to themselves. Although they are the same cars from the same production line in Japan, the selling arrangements are different. The downside is shorter service intervals if you wish to keep the warranty valid, the upside is the considerable price and tax saving to be made. You can't have it all ways, even if we would wish it to be so!
