Well as my name suggests; i first joined on here in 2004 as i was ready to purchase an impreza back then; but for certain reasons it didnt happen...well last Friday it did
and im well chuffed...picked her up and havent stopped smiling since...
![](http://i512.photobucket.com/albums/t328/andyfallows/impreza1.jpg)
Its an 2005 54 plate WRX with prodrive exhaust...
Ive noticed that the brakes seemed rubbish and will need replacing as worn down abit; so quick question i hope you guys can answer for me...is it best to go for oem brake discs and pads (seem dear?) or for EBC groove discs (same price as oem) and ebc redstuff pads?? Not interested in conversions etc.
Im local to Graham Goode so was planning atrip; unless anyone can help me or advise me elsewhere? Any responses by tomorrow morning (as im off tomorrow and want to sort them asap) will really really be appreciated
Regards
Andy (one happy Impreza owner

Hey Andy,
Nice looking motor - private buy or a heritge purchase??
Grooved discs and redstuff pads will probably work out bout the same as standards overall but will look better - unfortunately standard brakes on the WRX are pants in comparison to the STI.
Where abouts you from fella as I'm originally from Leicester and not far at all from Goodes as parents live just down the road in glen parva, so am about that way a fair bit.
Andy (also..lol)

Through a trader (found it on autotrader)...not a dealer but great guy
Yeah not sure...through graham goode...OEM discs £164 front pair plus OEM pads £147 means standard oem setup on front is £311 exc fitting...EBC turbo groove discs £176 and EBC redstuff pads £90 means £266 exc fitting...or Graham Goode oem replica discs £45 pair, then add redstuff pads at £90 mean £135 exc fitting..??? what to do....??
I live just outside Moira mate ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

If i were you mate,i would stay clear of ebc Red stuff pads as they are dangerous from cold, the bite is aweful! and just dont feel right under foot.
Mintex, pagid are not badly priced or for a little more go for ferodo pads.
If you are after looks then go for the ebc disc's with the above pads.
If not go for standard plain vented disks with the above pads![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)

I would highly recommend the Black Diamond Predator pads. Very well priced and have excellent bite after the 100-150 miles bedding in period.
I've just gone from a 283mm big brake kit on the 205 that had drilled/grooved front discs/Greenstuff pads to standard 247mm discs/Predator pads and there's practically no difference![EEK!](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Black Diamond / Predator Pads 'Fast Road' (Front) / Subaru Impreza / Euro Performance Car Parts
Bargain and I know a mate who used them on his 300bhp+ Wrx with no issues.

Andy I know you said you are not interested in 'conversions' but plenty of newage STi owners running big power fit big brakes and sell the STi Brembos on here.
There are always some used Brembos floating about on ebay or the for sale forum on here.
better pads and improved discs are not going to massively improve your stopping power on your WRX calipers imo. Used Brembos a great value for money upgrade and you may find a pair for sale with decent used discs/pads.
