Who can tell me, officially, when did the UK Turbo start to have 16 inch alloys fitted as standard, and did this apply to the 5 door?

A dealer's car has 15 inchers fitted on a 98/S, 5 door, but I reckon they should be 16s.

Am I correct or not?
Also, anybody know what style they should be.
Answers on a postcard, please!

Mine is a MY99 & I've got 'em

Taken from SIDC FAQ

1998
1998 saw a major overhaul of the interior, with the introduction of a new dashboard, taken from the Forester, featuring white dials, a computerised odometer and a low fuel light. Other improvements include a passenger airbag, Momo leather steering wheel, leather covered handbrake lever and a shorter throw gear lever. ICE equipment remained the same but the apertures and grills (and reportedly wiring) for the "tweeter kit" is supplied as standard. Revised inner door panels and centre console that includes the current trend for putting cup holders in cars, completes the changes. The only external changes are the 16 inch alloys on 205/50 VR16 Bridgestone Potenza tyres now fitted as standard to the Turbo model.

Edit as I was slightly wrong

A 98 car should have 16"s of the five spoked design with the 'flared' ends.
Like these....

I have a 97/P, and thought that only this year had the 15" Alloys fitted.

WHY DID SUBARU EVER THINK OF FITTING 15" ALLOYS

If you have a 98 model it will have 15" wheels. If you have a 99 model onward it will have 16" wheels. As with any 'new' model/facelift they are relesased and available just before the year designated (99). So you therefore got some 1998 registered MY99 cars. Yours doesn't sound as if it is one of these however. 16" wheels were needed for the bigger 4 pot front brakes fitted to MY99. If it's got 15" wheels it can't have MY99 brakes!?

Hi,

My MY98 was registered in August '98, and came fitted with 16" wheels and two-pot brakes - all MY98 cars came with 16" wheels, so ask the dealer what they have done with them!.

Cheers,

Alex

Thanks for the info, peeps.

I know the car had Speedlines fitted when it was new, cos I spoke to the guy who owned it previously. They were on the car when the dealer took it off him.

It seems like the dealer has flogged the wheels and fitted 15s.The interior includes white dials/momo wheel, etc associated with the 98 face lift version(if my memory is correct). It's an Aug 98 registered motor.I therefore assume it is due a set of 16s to make it a late MY98 spec car.

Again, please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks again
Steve

Don't think anyone will be correcting you.

Has the dealer disputed the fitment issue and irrespective would you wish to buy a car from an organisation that pulls a stroke like that??

Failing all that a call to IM with the chassis number would I'm sure give you the correct information, and a much bigger stick to beat the dealer over the head with.

I've just spoken to Subaru UK/ International motors sounds a lot better than I looked on a website and it said....

watch the lowlife scum squirm, sorry getting carried away...
