Default Buying Cars on Ebay

I'm looking at buying something like an old Pajero, and obviously ebay has tons of them.

What's the score with bidding on one which takes my fancy, then winning the auction.....driving say 100 miles down to see it, but then it turns out to be a shed? I'd obviously **** the seller off, as in theory on ebay if you win an auction, your obliged to pay etc.

Anyone been the buyer or seller and experienced this?

Easiest way is to treat Ebay like Autotrader. See a car, contact the buyer, negotiate a price outside of ebay, go and see it, if you like it buy it, if not drive home.

Seller saves the ebay fees, buyer doesnt commit to buying it. Everyone wins

Ive had his exact problem, I won a 300ZX popped on the train went to pick it up, had a good look over it and to say it was not as discribed was an understatment! So off I went home! If an any item is not as advertised or damaged or something is not mentioned in the add, you are in your right to just walk away!
Ive never had anyone walk way from all the cars ive sold, but thats cause im a 100% fussy so and so!!

Happy Bidding

I havent experienced this as either the buyer or seller but my opinion / understanding of the law is...

If the item is not as described then you do not have to go through with the sale, some of this can be highly subjective, when is mint, mint for instance and would be decided by a test of reasonableness if it went to court.

They are not allowed to lie about something so ask as many questions as you can upfront. Once you have won the auction as long as it matches up with the description / pictures on ebay and the answers to your questions you should go through with the purchase. If you spot something you forgot to ask then its your fault and should continue with the transaction.

If you bid on something and go to see it and it is not as the seller described you have the right to reject it. The item has to be as it is described in the auction. As Boro has said i have found it better to go and view it them if it is what you want you can negotiate a price and get the seller to end the auction early.

Done it this way three times now and always got a bargain But seen loads of sheds on ebay as well, including an "immaculate" Audi ur quattro that was three colours black, smoked like a steam train and refused to boost. It was a 10 valve and the owner wanted 20 valve money PMSL

i recently sold ma dads mondeo on ebay,w reg with 6months tax and mot ,i let them come for test drive but sat with them in passenger seat, told them exactly what was wrong with it and sent pics to there own email and both parties got a great deal, but beware there are plenty of con artists and scammers on ebay,
if u buy through ebay u can still refuse to buy if the item is not what its described as!!!

Ebay can be great and full of bargains, i've recently bought both my Impreza (needing work) and a gearbox and diff and i'm still the happy side of £500. Both done as described prevuosly, contacted the seller through the advert and asked what was wanted to 'End the auction early'. No probs so far with either and chuffed to bits with my purchases .

Cool, thanks guys! Suppose the key is to ask lots of questions and like you've said, if it isnt as the seller describes, walk away....
