Insurance In Germany
I hope someone can help me. I currently live in Germany and am considering buying a Scooby from the UK and registering it here.
It would be just a weekend car and for going to the Nurburgring once or twice a month.
Does anyone know any specialist insurance companies operating in Germany that would cover me for this.
Many thanks

Hi I am sat next to Audi plant In ingolstadt as i write this..its very diifferent appoach to cars over her as you probably realise.
And the main problem you have is geting a Uk scoob through the TUV
If you can get through this then insurence is no probs
Tackle the TÜV and all will be good

Insurance here is a farking rip off and is so complicated they have to print a manual to explain it. I have had my Impreza insured with the same company for nearly 10 years I spoke to them last week about insuring my 1991 mini Copper and they want 522 euros TPFT or Teilkasko as it is here.
Unless you have a no claims certificate to present to them they will start you off with a 150% premium and slowely work it down through the various SF classes. You will have 2 insurance policies on your car so wil have 2 policy quotes and be in 2 SF classes. Both these classes will give you different % of discount. Is that already complicated enough for you I am in SF class 12 I think which works out to be about 40% of the full premium. You need to have compulsary insurance for to drive the car and this is on SF class then if you want teh TPFT or full comp TeilKasko/Vollkasko you need to add that ontop of your initial policy hence the 2nd SF class.
The one good thing about insurance here is if you have the TK you are insured against hail damage and hitting fury animals etc.
If you need anymore help or confusing then drop me a mail or summat and I will try and explain it a bit better.

Why not buy the car in the UK and bring it back every year for the MOT and TAX. You get automatic cover with some insurance companies.
Are you working as a Civilian or Military/Civil Service? The military have a special arrangment and there are specialist companies available. Try OGirkes.

I wanted to insure my car in the UK but no insurance company would give me a green card for more than 90 days out of the UK. My german insurance company sent me a green card valid for 2 years no questions askend and I didn't even ask for it.

If you want to insure in Europe all year through with a Uk registered car....this lot will.
They are a bit more pricey than what you would pay for in the UK. But will give a green card for the year.
Stuart Collins and Co European Motor Insurance and Annual Green Cards
If you are like me and also spend alot of the year also in UK.....my car spends way more time in the UK than it does in Germany - then prob worth going with a UK insurence policy.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies.
I have considered keeping it UK registered and returning for the MOT and insuring in the UK, however I have found it difficult to get a quote that would allow a green card as Wurzel says for longer than 90 days. Also I have heard UK insurance companies dont cover for a 'de-restricted toll road' which inclludes the Nurburgring. As this is one of my reasons for wanting a Scoob I am thinking registering in Germany is the best option.
Saying this I am assuming a German insurance company would cover the Nurburgring as standard????
Not in the Services etc just live in Germany and work in Luxembourg so those options are out for me.
