Will P1's come down in price?

Over the last few months their has been a lot of talk of P1 prices falling drastically, but so far their is no sign of it, Autotrader prices average £25k.
I origionally thought they would but now am not so convinced what do you think?

Nope. I was looking at one but they are still selling well. 3 I looked at got sold after less than a week of being on the forecourt and they were overpriced compared to some of the others Ive seen on subaru.co.uk.
Occassionally if u check on the subaru site a well specced and low priced one turns up but u have to be quick and have the money to hand otherwise someone else will beat you to it. Your more likely to find a better price on Scoobynet but then you cant p/ex your current car so its a bit more hassle.

Danny,
Bought my p1 about 6 weeks ago paid 23k.The car is a 2001 y plate(with private wrc plate)done 19k,1 owner. It was advertised for 25.5k but I managed to get him down to 23k(main dealer). In answer to your question though,no I don't think they will come down a great deal, unless you get somebody who is really desperate to sell.

I think not I spoke to a few subaru garages today and thery are really struggling to get hold of them, cos they sell too quickly.
Another said prices have gone up again! - new ugly sti isn't affecting it, they are now backtraking against what they said i.e. new sti is fantastic etc, better than the p1 etc.
I had the money to buy the new sti or p1, and guess what I went for - new sti just doesn't do it for me.
It seems the people in the know understand what the p1 is all about and it doesn't have as good interior & brakes, but it's a p1 and it's the still the most desireable everyday a to b scoob there is.
It's annoying when people on here slag them off all the time, the majority probably haven't even sat in one let alone drive it. come on guys it's hard to admit but it's still by far the best yet.
I reckon they will struggle to go below £20K.
you can buy mine for £24K if you want it though.....
Chris

A new UK STi for £26k - what does that make any P1 worth?
I think not
![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)
And for the record i got offered 22k CASH for my 18 month old X plate with 14,000 on the clock by a Subaru dealer, I bet the sti wont be worth that much trade in 6 months

31.5K new and 22K after 18 months that 9.5K depreciation.
Thats £520 a month
who says P1's dont depreciate ![Wink](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/wink.gif)
So if the STI is 26K new and depreciates by 9.5K over 18months then it should be about 15.5K for a 18 month model. Just a bit more than an 18month old MY00 are going for.
Back in the good old days my 1998 UK depreciated 6K in two years and that was list price to lowish part ex, pretty good I thought
.
Even 22B's are coming down in price but a lot are finding there way to permanent keepers
so I guess the prices will hold better as less will be available.

I sold my P1 for 23k, trade, W plate, 26k miles - paid 27.5 for it 18 months previous. Prices are holding because like it or not people prefer the old shape outside of the hardcre community.
Paid 25k for an evo6 Tommi Mak - dealer offered me 26 for it 2 months later...

Yep, prices will fall... Wait until more P1's are available outside the dealer network. At the moment the prices being offered by some dealers are varying massively, but the prices they are selling for currently similar.

I dont know about the prices but I can say that I am probably happier with my P1 than any other car I have ever owned. I know there are a lot of indivs who prefer the new STi but many also still like the P1. As a long term buy its good value at the moment. I cant see a decent one dropping much below 15k for a good while.
True there have been one or two very cheap examples sold but having seen at least one of them I can understand why.

Just on another point about P1's. I've just de-catted mine for a full HKS system and 'OH MY GOD!'
Anyone with a P1 out there, just do it! You won't believe the difference!

A guy in our Manchester office has just paid 18 (yes 18) grand for a 30000 mile P1 - so in answer to your question - yes prices are coming down. AFAIK this is a genuine 'straight' car.

Paid well over £30k for my P1 with all the extras new, since spent another 3k on mods and I don't care whether it is worth 50pence as I love my car. It was good out of the box but in now awesome.

I am thinking of selling mine, partly because of the depreciation fear (I was burnt badly on depreciation with an Esprit V8) and because I am fed up with the m*x power image - it seems you spend 30k on a car and might as well of tupperwared up an old nova in many people's eyes (although I do recognise I am maybe being a bit pretentious about this). If it looked as good as it performs, it would indeed be my perfect car, it's just not giving me the feel good factor you can get by some cars, just by looking at them and sitting in them, before you even drive them.
I am struggling to decide though - my current thinking is to sell the P1 and get a 993 turbo, where at least I know I won't lose much money, or stuff the worries and go for brake/downpipe upgrades and shut up & be happy.
Mmmmm....

err, Chopper, looks like you might have bought the car for the wrong reasons if your biggest concern is what other people think. And if your fear is depreciation, then selling it now is surely the worst thing you can do?

Chopper
Keep your P1 and go for the mods, I have the Prodrive brakes with goodridge hoses, DS2500 pads front and rear and DOT5.1 fluid, they are a relevation.
Like yourself I must admit that once I have thought about selling, that lasted .5 of a second when I signed on the dootted line for the third time in a week at the Shell garage!!!
I personally went for the downpipe option last weekend, giving large power increases with the de-cat centre section and Prodrive backbox. Power now 306bhp and c260ft of torque. Those figures were of Powerstations rolling road which is normally dead on. The car is very different, turbo spools up much quicker and the power comes in 700rpm lower.
If you want anymore info just drop me an email. I have taken 10 months to take the plunge on the exhaust option and spent alot of time looking into what combination etc.
Cheers for now...

FJ, I'd like to re-iterate my biggest concern is certainly not what people think, it is that the car puts a grin on my face every time I drive it.
However, I do think we all care at least a little about the 'feel good' factor - it's a bit like the difference between wearing tatty tracksuit or a smart, designer clothes. I have felt proud and excited being taken for a ride in a diablo, and felt nothing in a polo. Time and a place for both. I knew this when I bought the P1, and it's just something that bothers me occassionaly - normally when people who do not know about subarus put the car down (japanese tupperware...boy racer etc etc).
Viper - check your mail.
Cheers

Viper - I Decatted at the weekend aswell. Went for the complete HKS option, only took me 5 hours to fit!
It's definately released a whole new car.
My only concern is finding a garage in the midlands that will carry out Subaru Warranty work if I ever need it.

Mine was for sale at 23k for 6 weeks last autumn with no interest, finally sold it for 21k to a dealer - 22k miles but otherwise in good condition; a couple of other P1s also went for similar prices. Can't see why prices would have risen since then - if you look around and are patient then you should pick up a good one for around 20k in a private sale.
Autotrader prices are in cloud cuckoo land - I was advertising at least 2k below every other P1 there, and got 2 phone calls in 6 weeks, none followed up.

You sound like a braver man than me fitting your own exhaust. I did think about the HKS option but since I had the P1 Prodrive backbox I went for a centre section and downpipe that fitted straight onto the backbox. I choose Magnex in the end and it fits to the Prodrive backbox as if they were made by the smae people.
Warranty issues do worry me, but if It came to it I would have it put back to standard and then take it to the supplying dealer.
Cheers.....
