Default newbie, 02 sti light mods question/advice

hi there, after making it to 36 without owning a scooby i decided to go for it last week after eyeing loads up without laying the cash down! have gone for an 02 plate sti, its that kinda dark blue/black colour and quite frankly i love it, an incredible driving experience.

my question is relatively simple, i guess the answers will probably not be...its pretty standard at the moment, only mod i can find is a magnex back box, engine seems absolutely standard. what is the right sequence of mods to give it a little more straight line urgency, lots of conflicting advice re induction kits, air panel filters, decat etc. happy to spend upto a grand or so, assuming that its best to remap following certain mods??

given its stopping and cornering ability i think its reasonable to get it to go a little faster unless anyone says different re brakes / suspension?

hope this is a sensible way of asking the question and that its in the right forum, and if anyone sees a slightly grey haired chap with a big grin in his sti round and about market harborough that'll be me!

thanks
chris

Hi welcome to the forum

Mine has a panel filter (STD air box is good enough) Up rated plugs, fuel pump, total 3" decat (it is loud) Andy Forrest remap and it produces 330bhp
Pick up a used exhaust if you can save you a few quid but think about a sports cat if you don’t have a friendly MOT station it will also keep the noise down a bit

Suspension wise assuming your struts are ok put an antilift kit on the front with solid drop links on the rear then get the geometry checked by a Subaru specialist will improve the handling a fair bit

Upgrade the pads as needed the STD Brembos are fairly good with the right pads

as above really

panel filter
delete or cut resonator
uprated fuel pump
decent turbo back set up and remap should see some decent gains or just go for ppp from prodrive

Hi, and welcome to the world of bug-eyes,

The best value mod on my 02 STI is an adjustable Whiteline rear ARB. Have a look and see if it's been changed....

And mine managed 340 bhp with a 100 cell cat and a TSL system.

Enjoy !

Possible, but the major changes were at the front to increase the "feel" of the steering...
