Road salt AND Impreza's
i recently read an article in total impreza magazine about road salt being damaging to impreza's due to the poor underbody protection. I have recently just started using my impreza as an everyday car, and i am now worryed that i should lock it away for the winter.
What are people's views on road salt on there impreza's ? is it really that damaging ?

JDM cars have very little underseal if any. The UKDM/EDM stuff was much more road prepared than imports. There is even a rust proofing and body check pages in the service manuels. I think they had at least five year warranties for rust.
Just have a look at how many Foggy, Legacy and XT's still banging around farms.

Nope you can do it yourself. You can buy it in brush on or paint on form. You'll have to clean the underside, wheelarches and anywhere where you want to put it on right down. Get rid of all dirt and grease. Then just go at it and paint it on. It's a nightmare to get off anything that you don't want it on though. Garages will do it for you but you're most likely looking at around £200 - £500. Do it yourself for about £50 - £100.
But it's a functional thing not bling

Been planning on wax-oyling mine since I bought it but it's just one of those jobs isn't it...
Do you have to remove the exhaust or anything while doing it or is it just a case of taking your time and being careful?

i done this on my old evo 4, just bought a big tin of waxoil and a selection of different size brushes, small ones good for getting in the difficult places, 4inch brush for large flat areas, it helps to heat the waxoil in the oven first so it goes on nice and easy, its a messy job espacially when your doing it led on your back on the driveway, take your time and its very satisfiying to know your cars underbody is fully protected.

I used Schutz on an imported Isuzu when i was working at my friends garage. Seemed great stuff, went on great and didnt look to much of a mess once it was done.
I used the Schutz Gun than connected to the air line with the 1 litre canistersof schutz. Thinking about doing mine with the same stuff.

I waxoyl all my cars, wheather they are imports or not.
I got 2 gallons of waxoyl on the RB5 2years ago, its ready for a top up now though!!
Make sure that the car is well cleaned in below before applying, and scrape any rust or that away. A good steam clean in below would be the best idea, but MAKE SURE that the car is well dried after, as you definately do not want to apply Waxoyl or any type of sealer over damp or moisture, that wouldnt be good lol, possibly worse than not applying any at all
Its better to do it in the summer to be honest as the hotter weather will help to dry the car in below if its left out for a few days
Mines cost £100 to get done, and that include the price of the Waxoyl, its handier getting it done somewere if they have a lift to get in below, otherwise i would have done it myself !!

I could be wrong, but I believe the true name to go for is Dinitrol. They are leaders in the rust and underseal field. Google search it and there are people who swear by it. Waxoyl may not be the holy grail. http://www.frost.co.uk/automotive-ru...5-1-litre.html

I'm doing mine soon. Decided to go steam clean (found a transport garage with an outside ramp), then spraying on waxoyl and this really gets where brushed can't (car on ramp with wheels removed, and exhaust and brakes covered)
The Dinitrol stuff is black. The waxoyl stays transparent

I have used dinitrol good stuff comes in black for on show and brown for inside cavities, think site I used was rust.co.uk superb stuff much easier to use than waxoyl I have used before just treat any rust found and put a etch primer on bare surfaces to maximise protection thinking if doing my my05 jdm underneath as a precaution

Waxoyl is the good stuff..
anyone that has an old Land Rover knows how good it is... or how bad LRs chassis are if not treated.
google Land Rover Waxoyl and you'll find loads of info about it. its worth doing.
Proper companies will also spray the cavaties, its no good just spraying outside, if you wont get it inside, the rust will eat inside out

Well it has been dug up so I'll comment too.
Mine is a Blobeye Sti and it is a type Uk not a Jdm. Still one of the worst I have had for minor rust on the front end underneath. Still worth sorting Jdm or not.
