Default Guillotine Bootlid?

I have just had a scoobyworld sti spoiler fitted to my hawkeye and the boot now closes like a guillotine.

Is there anything I can do to slow the descent, uprated boot springs?

Cheers

Steve

The boot springs from an STI are up-rated compared to the WRX, probably your best bet

I have an Hawkeye STI but came delivered with a lip spoiler (a-line). Do you think they would have switched out the STI boot springs for WRX ones at manufacture?

I've got the opposite problem, having removed the STi ironing board! I'm going to find someone local with a WRX plank or an A-line boot lip to do a spring swap with

Had the same problem on my last classic. If you've only removed the ironing board for looks, just get some lead and tuck it into the ribbing on the inside of the bootlid

Guess that would work, if a bit random

Had a PM from someone who lives close to me, so looks like I can organise a swap

I'm glad other people are having this problem I thought it was just me. Any idea other than main dealer who would possibly have boot springs. I suppose Grade A might have some if they are breaking an STI but wouldnt they want to sell the springs with the bootlid ?

Did anyone manage to locate some decent aftermarket springs?
I've been looking at getting an STi wing but don't fancy losing my fingers..

Try main dealer, ask for torsion bar for when an STI spoiler is fitted, they are only about £35 or the guy breaking a WR1 has a set.

Any one have a pic or even better a link to this A-line boot lip?

I'd like to get rid of the ironing board on mine

Its just another thing that adds to the police's ability to pic one up with their scooby radar!

There's 10 holes holding the sti spoiler that would need to be filled if i remove it! Then get new one on, an the whole lot sprayed again.

Tell me about it - exactly what I went through

I ended up buying a second hand bootlid that had already been filled and repainted, but still have to fit the lip spoiler...once that's repainted

So, if anyone wants my old obsidian black bootlid, complete with all the holes for an STi ironing board, just let me know and you can have it for a bargain price

Oh, but no spoiler attached

If you ditch a big spoiler for a tiny one, just ditch once of the springs as an easy fix to stop it flying open.

I've been looking into this, getting the springs is not difficult most breakers will do them and Subaru only want £40 for the set, it's the fitting that worries me, how do you get them under tension without the 'proper' subaru tool?

The Scoobyworld spoilers come with U bolts to tighten the boot springs but nobody I've spoken to knows where the hell to put them!

My main dealer would supply & fit for £55.. much easier than trying yourself in my book.

I removed then replaced one of my STi springs to see how it behaved with only one fitted. Yes, it was a bit fiddly to do it but it is possible - I climbed in to the boot which made it much easier!

Only one or two chunks missing from my hands afterwards
