Yes, get it remapped afterwards without driving it too far.

You doing the work yourself? Better with two pairs of hands when changing the downpipe - one person under the car and one under the bonnet.

No comment on MOT's but use your noggin.

MOT's aren't a get out of jail free pollution card , so make an informed decision about emissions and potential road testing, Sports cats were made for a reason. I run decat on my wagon and sportscat on my SpecD.

As a minimum, full de/sports cat, 3port boost solenoid, Walbro fuel pump and a remap! If it's not been recently serviced it's a good time to get colder plugs, fresh Motul 300v and a nice new panel filter.

You car will overboost like mad without the remap as the ECU struggles to control the boost. Fuel cut, engine light fault code P0244 most likely. Keep doing this and....

Get it mapped by someone that knows what they are doing, I can recommend Simon JGM as a first class mapper who understands the MY06 ECU and how to get the best out of the 2.5

Hi,

Getting it remapped thats for sure.
There is just questions over if the first cat is good to leave on a 2.5 sti or not.

TBH it would save a lot of hassle if you did. Supposedly prodrive claim it's flow rate is almost that of a sports cat and would avoid MOT issues and the severity of overboost issues. Left in place you would see a healthy 330/350 I imagine, which mapped consistently through the rev range is more than enough for most.

Forgot to mention I watched Hayward & Scott fit mt de cat and it does look straight forward but if anything does go wrong ie bolt snapped or like you will be screwed and left with a car in pieces, let the pro's do it! If I remember I think they charged me £75.00 and took them about 1 hour.

I would be happy to leave the 1st cat on and bypass the second but some say that even mapped, it wont get much BHP etc than the standard STI as it is now?

Mapping is done to YOUR car so they are all different, That whats make it so good, its tailor made for you your mods and the car as they are all not the same.

Can you get dual maps on the hawkeye? That way you could in theory bypass the first cat and then use it for MOTs via an alternative map...

Having said that, I wouldn't bother. I found the first cat to be the most restrictive, so it had to go. A sports cat is probably the best road option but is expensive.

My car is decatted and makes a safe 360/390. I'm sure I could have pushed it further but in standard trim these engines are only supposed to be good for 400bhp. I didn't want to over cook it and to be honest the car is probably more than I am capable of handling as it is.

Mine amazingly passes MOT without issue or need to change the set up and I am still yet to even see one of these fabled road testing things... but they may become more of an issue in future.

Pitty You carnt fit just the second CAT for MOT, its a lot easier to fit and means would be a two piece de-cat etc.

You can.

It only needs one cat to get through the MOT in this country.

Decat the downpipe and then swap the centre cat for MOT purposes - remove afterwards.

Be surprised if it gets through the emissions test with just the second cat?

Mine still has both cats in place. Simon remapped mine to 340 bhp/355 ft lb. He knows his stuff. The car was transformed after the map. Only additions are a vortex centre pipe and back box.

I was told by removing the second cat would gain another 10 or so BHP.
