Default Water temp gauge fitting

Hi all. Just got me scooby back on the road but the temp gauge on the dash is not working due to the lack of a needle. I have got a temp pod gauge to put on but wanted to know if it's possible to take the wires off the back of the one in the dash and redirect them to the pod. And if so which wires go where??
Can anyone help me out with this as I'm chomping at the bit to get out in the motor but don't want to do any damage..
