195/50/15 Tyres
Hi guys,
I was just wondering whether fitting 195/50/15 tyres instead off the 205/50/15 tyres would make any difference in the accuracy off the speedo?
I think the 205/50/15 is similar to the size that was originally on the car.
Would it cause the speed to be out?
I've been looking at a full set off new tyres and 195's are just so much cheaper, with alot more choice.
Thanks, Asif

Take a look at this and see the difference TYRESAVE: Tyre Size Calculator I used to use the miata one but that's asking for a java update and I can't be bothered to do that now.

Tire size calculator
Tire size calculator
Should put your speed out by -1mph, so when actually doing 60 the speedo will read 59. Not enough to get you in serious trouble. Move up on the profile to 55's and it's the other way 'round.

Why do people want to skimp on tyres? they are one of the most important part of the car, stick to the manufacturers recommendation and stay on the road rather than have less traction and end up in a hedge/ditch/wall.

Not sure where you find the 195's are cheaper unless you drop the speed rating (not a good idea).
Both the above are mid range tyres.
I point to the cost of the Toyo's, over 10 quid difference between the wrong size and the correct size (the 205's are cheaper), plus you also have the speed rating and load rating to consider (both are higher on the 205's).

4 new 195/50/15 t1r's are just over 100 pounds from camskill, where as 4 new 205/50/15 t1r's are just over 250 pounds fro camskill
To me that is a huge difference in price! I was just asking if I went for the 195's would the speedo but out?
Thanks for the advice guys, I have a go on the calculator and see how much its out by. If its 1mph then I'm not to fussed tbh.
Thanks

If your running 15 inch wheels on an impreza they should be 60 section tyres. 50`s are for 16 inch wheels. Think tony is just pointing out the correct size assuming that you have a subaru.

Its a 1995 Wrx with 2 pots up front I'm pretty sure it came out off the factory on 15's but I could be wrong.
It came with 17's when I got the car but first thing I did was change to 15's as It feels so much better IMO. The accelaration is alot better and the car feels alot more agile.
