I was just driving back home, it was heavy rain so I was going steady, when I got to a small puddle I'd forded earlier. Problem was, to look at it was the same level, however it had risen considerably. By this time I was in and thought "committed, keep the bow wave going". I then noticed a car half submerged on the opposite lane.
Oh f*ck! So I pressed on as the bow wave began to go over the bonnet. I kept it going, the engine boosting in first gear trying to force through. I was adamant I was going to come to a halt as the engine ingested some water and then self destruct.
But it didn't. I got to the other side free of a very large bill (in need of a new pair of boxers though!)
Relieved I parked up and popped the bonnet to see the extent of water ingress. **** the bed! The bottom of my induction cone was dripping wet! As well as every inch of the engine bay being soaked in water. 10 mins later, it was all dried up. No problems except clutch feeling a little juddery. Cue rusty bearing and oil ingress no doubt, but a lucky escape no less!
Time for a bottle of Yorkshire Warrior and a chillax I think!

Yes there has been a lot of rain in this area. More than I can remember in the last 25 years probably over a three week period. Several roads round here were closed because of flooding and that is an unusual occurance and it is still raining now but not as hard and the flooding we could see has receded a bit.
Going through deep water in a Subaru is very ill advised and even more so for those with cold air kits in the inner wing. If you ingest water in sufficient quantity to hydraulic the engine you will end up with a minimum of bent rods.
The procedure for driving through deep water is relatively low speed to avoid a significant bow wave but adequate speed to keep the revs high enough in first gear to ensure there is adequate power.

i think with the original airbox in place you can go thru quite a deep puddle as the inlet snorkel for the airbox points upwards anyway,so thats a good start indeed, however i wouldnt want to risk it especially with an induction cone !!!

On a classic i should add,the spout is quite close to the middle for height wise,of the front wing area, behind the arch liner of course

Yes I'd never describe my STI as a rally car.... Subaru badge or not... in fact the badge is probably the only common part...
To be fair, the air intake on the Subaru is a high as they can put it (barring snorkle kit obviously!) unless you play with it's location and feed height (Cone type conversion).
Many of the French euro boxes have the intake almost at kerb level..which I can never understand the mentality of.
