Default Bug-eye cam belt advice

Hello guys,

Currently looking for a bug-eye and have been advised by a local mecanic to make sure I check that when the cam-belt was changed, the plastic pulleys were also changed. Apparently half the engine has metal pulleys half has plastic?!?

Is this the case on the bug-eye? and if so...

When the cambelt gets replaced, would it come in a kit with new plastic pulleys?

I went to view a car yesterday and the current owner was unsure if they had been done or not with the cambelt. The car is a 52 plate bug-eye on 64k.

Cheers

On the STI I had the recommended cam belt change is 50k or 5 years so it should have been done if serviced properly.
Dont think the pulleys are a problem but sometimes the idler rollers and tensioner need changing but not always.

Doesn't it have any history?

it has full service history, first 4 stamps main dealer then the rest are the same local garage up to 60K. The owner has had the car from new, its currently on 64K and he claims the cam-belt was changed at 52K, however I really don't remember checking the receipt for this He also showed me the old cam-belt - random.

So would you recommend getting it checked first or just getting it replaced again for peace of mind?

Whats the rough cost for this?

by the time you have taken the covers off you may as well stick a belt on, as said above sometimes the idler pulleys need changing along with the tensioner, most places will charge £150 inc the belt for just a belt change and more if you need the tensioners, as for the plastic cam pulleys as long as they arent knocked or gripped with vice grips to hold the timing marks in place, they will be fine.

cheers guys, if I go ahead and buy it, which i'm pretty sure i'm going to, i'll get it replaced.. job done!

One other question, should there be a lining on the inside of the boot lid? It didn't have one which seemed odd?

Sorry for constant questions, i'm new to all this... hopefully have my first subaru this week though
