Default Car Park Bump

On getting my car out of garage this morning i noticed a rather large bump on the front

Seems when i was in M&S car park yesterday a large vehicle has reversed into front of car. I say large vehicle as only bonnet and lights affected not front bumper. Looks like high tow bar or something knocked into it

How is best to proceed with this? is it worth contacting shop with times i was there to see if any CCTV?

Or do i just go straight to insurance and go from there?

Spoke to M&S and they say they wont give me footage because of the freedom of information act - said to ask my insurance company to contact them for it?

Could i report this to police to get them to access footage or will they just fob me off as wont be interested in something like this?

Insurance company seemed to say i can chase this all up but all they seemed interested in was claiming on my own insurance

Sorry to hear of your misfortune - its happened to me once or twice and it makes my blood boil!

Out of interest, seeing as M&S won't give you the tapes maybe they will let you review them with all the relevant security types present at their premises? If you review them and you can get the reg then surely your insurance company would do the rest?

I hope it all sorts itself out for you without too much cost in the end

I don't know the law or anything like that but if somebody has hit your car and left the scene with out leaving details is that not an offence there for the police can be involved and then have the CCTV looked at

you may as well go through your insurance now you've told them, as you'll have to declare it on renewal anyway.
