Default WRX-S & STI Technical Diff

M8 asked me Differances between the STI and WRX-S and apart from the Obvious of which im gonna list anybody got anything else to add, not much on the site really subarus that is that stands out

Ok

Bodyshell Flared winds on STI
Brakes Brembo on STI
6 speed Box with intelli thingy
Leather seats
4 port exhaust
300 or 330 bhp

Ok there the easy ones. Now if we drop to the Engine im preuming its the exact same BASE block but with added goodies dep on version.

SO could you make a WRX-S the same under the hood ? or is there something that would stop you ? or is it a case if larger intercooler ? diff radiator ? I presume exhaust same apart from backbox ?

Sorry for noob questions, but be nice to know

thanks Guys

Soon be xmas

By the way 08+ models

I know this has been covered in the past between the saloon WRX and STI.

Here's a pic of my 08 STI engine bay, totally standard apart from the zerosports intake pipe.

Dont forget STI has different suspension to add to your list.

KK cool, ive mailed Lichfields also, and asked the question of what if needed would you need to do to get it to 300 350,

My Goal in Life would prob wait 12 months then get a 330s but im just also in a need to know area that if i spent ££££ on upgrades id obviously loose my warrenty ( but i do a lot of miles so it aint gonna last me too long ) and do they offer warrenty as backup once done.

Id love to spend 2k+ on something and have the magical 300+ that would do me.

break the 5sec barrier

Cannot find the actual link I'm afraid but have a search and there are a few that compare certain items on the WRX and STI, block, pistons etc, hopefully that will give you an idea.

From past threads though I think the outcome was always that buying an STI was cheaper/better if you take everything into consideration, brakes, handling etc. Saying that though I'm sure with a map, fuel pump, decat and maybe some colder plugs you could keep up with an STI in a straight line and for probably around 1-1.5k, was tempted to do this with my old Hawk WRX but decided on the whole STI package instead, might suit you though in the short term and way cheaper that trading in, all depends what you want, handling some will say is your first port of call as there is no point having straight line speed if you cannot go round a corner, same with brakes, all down to personal choice.

Scooby L, Revolution had some for less than half price so could not refuse, cannot see them on their website now but maybe worth a call.

Cheers
Arron

Its like saying what is the difference between a ford focus 1.6 and the RS, well they sort of look the same, thats about it.
Same name, totally different cars.

i had the answer from Lichfields a none biased 1

smaller turbo diff suspension and due to the 5 speed box being not as strong as the 6 speed then not advised to upgrade much past the PPP.

and dont pitch it against the 1.6 and RS the RS would leave the 1.6 behind, the sti doesnt leave the wrx-s behind by much in a line anyway

your just biased cos uve just got 1 :P

Sure there is a guy on here with an 06 Hawk that has a reliable 300+ from his 2.5 WRX engine which I can only assume (maybe wrong) is the same as you have. Think his username maybe F1CKE or similar, check out the Hawk thread in teh gallery and there will be a few tuned WRX's (not WRXS) on there that may give you a few ideas.

If your in Kent maybe give jolly green monster a call.
