Question Flashing CEL on MY03 WRX?

CEL flashed on and off tonight for about 20 seconds when accelerating moderately in 5th gear (80ish), did not feel any kind of hesitation or loss of power.

Dropped speed to about 60 then tried to accelerate in exactly the same way and the light did not come back on..

Anyone any ideas what would cause this, and would it be stored as a historic fault code?

Flashing CEL on accelleration usually indicates that the ECU is thinking that there is a misfire somewhere as it can't get it's head around the air / fuel ratio's as there is conflicting data from the MAF and Lambda.....maybe a leak in the boost pipework somewher letting in (or out) air that the MAF has seen go into the engine.

Or NPS problem

Bugeye cam sensor position error is a solid light that usually goes aout 5 starts.

Should be stored as an historic code

it has detected a problem with one of the sensors or it's readings on the engine, get it on a select monitor and get it read properly

I'm going to be near Gateshead next Wednesday remapping a modified 01 WRX. If you're about that day and can come to me i'd be happy to plug in my laptop and check to see if there is a problem, and check any old codes in the history to see what's happened in the past.

Thanks for the offer but I work in Cramlingtom and don't finish till 6PM..

Hasn't happened on the way to work this morning, although it does seem to be making a slight blowing noise while idling so I'll probably take it to ASP and get then to have a look for me.

Had the light flash again exactly the same on the way to work the other morning, this time I took the car round to ASP and Alyn checked it out with the laptop.

It had no historic fault codes stored at all. Alyn said it could sometimes be caused by a loose earth connection although he couldn't see anything obvious.

So still a bit of a mystery...

I'd like to thank Alyn for checking it for me free of charge as well. Top bloke.
