Default Focus RS on Top Gear

Now Im not too good at figures but just been watching Top Gear on Dave and I think they said the new RS has 300 bhp and a web site said it has 410Nm torque!

How have they done that> My scooby is over 310bhp now easily but I dont think the torque is anywhere near that.

I notice the 97 WRX is 200kg lighter though.

I read it was 440Nm. It is going to accelerate like a rocket. The WRC cars are also like that, well i mean 300Bhp but torque much higher than Bhp.

410Nm is just over 300Lb.Ft

1Nm is almost 0.75 Lb.Ft as a rough calculation

See told you I was crap at this sort of thing, in that case Im not too far off then. Shuld beat one with the car being lighter and 4 wheel drive then. (Off road in a controlled enviroment obviously :-) )

Cheers guys!

Having had a Mk1 Focus RS running 310bhp / 317 lbft, a Mk2 Focus RS at 305bhp / 310lbft and an STi PPP with remap at 337bhp / 320lbft I can say off the line the STi is definitley quicker purely because of the 4wd and lack of wheelspin. Once up and running theres not much in it at all. My Mk1 Focus RS was easily the best handling but thats due to it having proper fully adjustable suspension retro fitted for track use. The Mk2 Foucs felt the best quailty of the three and the Sti is best for the quick 2 / 3 rd gear squirts of acceleration.

EVO figures

RS 30-70 5.1
STI 30-70 4.4

Though is it fair to compare a hot hatch to a high performance 4WD car, even if they both have the same power ?

On uneven sweeping road, if you put down the power voliently the RS is dangerous - i though i was going to crash the demo. On flat roads its fine. The revo nuckle does wonders, but you need to respect 300bhp in front wheel drive car, especially if its damp.

I wonder what the tuning potential is with the open deck block? Those cylinder walls look thin...

I know of Mk2 FRS's running over 400BHP with relatively minor modifications. As usual with fwd its all a question of whats usable with power like that due to wheelspin in the first 3 gears in the dry and 4 gears in the wet. (or keep traction control on a get beaten off the line by a saxo!)

I did a quick search and for anything above 340bhp, tuning packages have new FMIC, injectors, induction and superchip and cost circa £3.5K. Wouldn't a new turbo be needed for 400bhp?

Hmmm.. £3.5k for mods to a car that would be make it or less undriveable in anger..

I can't be the only one who doesn't really see the point of that.

Not sure where your info on undriveable comes from as I have done, and you can be very angry

I would be angry if other cars passed me because I was stationary with wheel spin...

Not quite as much fun but with the tech in the new FRS I think a lot of the old awd fans would definitely be suprised.

Didn't realise the R8 and GTR (probably 2 of the best cars currently) are 2WD

Agree the new FWD cars are miles better than old models.

5th cylinder gives it so much extra torque to begin with. Lovely engine note too.

As a massive Ford fan I would still pick the mk1 FRS though

If you go on youtube there is one of the mk2 that is really impressive i think it is a fella on a test drive cos at the end he guy says pull over here as you cant be seen driving it back in! lol
However there is a video of a launch from standstill and it spins **** loads off the line in all fairness i very rarely launch mine from standstill but nice to know i can in all conditions without spinning on the line.
Still a very very very nice motor.
Also saw a mk1 at dyno demon which was very nice and you get them for good prices in good nick

How on earth do they get the torque so high?! Why "only" 300bhp? Are they limited to that or something?
