Default Which Tyre

I had a full set of 225/40/18 Eagke F1's which i thought were the bees knees, but these are due to be replaced. However the manufactorers appear to have moved away from the V tread pattern; so finding a set V tread without paying the premium for them is like rocking horse dung.

Any suggestions on a good alternative tyre?

Always found Toyo T1-R's to be very good in both the wet and the dry. Not THE best tyre available but they provide a good balance of performance against cost.

In my view, there is only one choice and that is the F1 Asymmetric. The only thing wrong with them is that they look like ordinary tyres which meant that I nearly didn't buy them - it would have been my loss!

The goodyears are not that good, try the Sessanta's, better in the wet and dry but they do wear slightly quicker

eh?

Camskill have the F1 GSD3 (the one you like) for £93.50 a corner, or the newer F1 Assymetric for £97.50.

Always very fast, efficient service, and you can look up a lsuitable ocal fitter on mytyres.co.uk.

I have the GSD3 on the scoob at the moment and think they suit it very well. For an extra £4 a corner however I'd prob go for the newer Assymetric - it won the last evo mag tyre test (2007). The GSD3 won their 2002 tyre test, so it's obviously older tech, and (according to Goodyear) the Assymetric provides superior performance over the GSD3

I previously had a set of GSD3s (the directional pattern like you have now). They were excellent and when they wore prematurely due to bad wheel geometry I replaced them with what I thought was a bargain from ebay. They turned out to be 5 years old and GSD2s, which are NOWHERE NEAR as good in the wet.

I've heard nothing but good about the new asymmetric ones vs the GSD3s.

My next set will be either the asymmetrics or a set of Vredestein Sessentas which sound very good from what I've heard.

Oh, and once my engine's back in it's runnong on the Nokians for the winter

as was I with the GSD3s, they inspired so much confidence in the wet. can't say the same for the older GS2s

Yep another vote from me for the Vredestein Sessentas, although at the moment I have Vredestein Sessentas on the rear and Bridgestone Potenze RE050's on the front (couldn't get a pair of Sessentas in time to replace them after I scrubbed a flat spot on my front right).....

Is it worth having a continous count to act as a vote for the best choice tyre that people acutal buy, and lets try and keep this to Subaru's.

I will start the ball rolling.

1, Eagle F1 GSD3 - 1 vote(s)

Trouble with that is :-

1. Few people are easily convinced they just spent £500+ on the wrong product.
2. The ability to objectively compare the performance of 2mm tread tyreA that I've just removed compared to that of the 8mm tread brand new tyreB I've just fitted is extremely difficult. Beyond me, and beyond almost everyone who has a bit of humility.

Whilst I can also see weaknesses in group "tyre test" attempts, they provide the most objective assessment I've seen to date. Interesting in this (and similar) tyre tests I've read that the tyres which feel the best aren't necessarily the best performers.

A bad naughty man (not me) may have allegedly breached copyright and posted the 2007 evo tyre test article Over here. Worth a read......
