Default Loss of brakes !

Just finished washing the car , I'd left it running on the drive for about 5 mins then went round the block, came to the t junction pressed the brake pedal , nothing happened pedal felt really hard so I pressed harder and the car slowed . Tried this again , did the same, hard pedal no brakes ! Came down the hill back to my house brakes were fine , went for a slow drive around , no problems ! Has this happened to anyone else or does anyone have any ideas what caused this ?

It has put me off driving the scoob in case it happens at speed so I'd like to get it sorted asap .

The car is an 04 sti jdm .

Thanks

Nigel.

you probably used wheel cleaner which probably caused the usual corrosion on the disks super quick as it does and it probably took the first stop to clear off the muck and get proper contact again probably.

It felt like the servo had stopped assisting , if that makes any sense , the discs do rust up even after rain so I know that feeling and the grating noise that goes with it and it felt different to that , the pedal felt really hard and the amount of pressure I had to put on it to slow the car from not much more than walking pace was quite extreme . Not sure what it was but it feels normal now , just I'm a bit dubious in case it does it again .

not sure if the servo has got a one way valve in it? most turbo models do? possible if it has then that may have got stuck closed?

Just a thought could the one way valve freeze open with water vapour on a cold damp day ?

Yup! invatiably you will get plenty of water chemiclas on the disks and pads when cleaning them (if you do it properly) i always take it easy and try my brakes a few times after washing the car, my dad taught me that when i was 17.

If unsure find a local clear stretch of road and try them a few times.
