Mr clutch look and sound a bit like Quick Fit to me so on the strength of that I will say stay clear and use a Subaru specialist.

just fitted my one tonight only took 10 mins coz the engines out and just been rebuilt, but the going rate for fitting a clutch to a classic seems around £200, not bad!

Shame you aren't nearer to Wycombe because there is a cracking Subaru mechanic here that has just been made redundant from Zen He fitted the clutch to my old scoob and he has changed my friends clutches too.

Thanks

Thanks for that.
We fit five speed and six speed clutches for a fixed £155.
The cost of an Exedy five speed O/E replacement, depending on model and year varies from £145- £195.
We are Darlington. 5 minutes off the A1M and esay to find.

Myles,

Yes it's fiestaboy and he lives in High Wycombe just down the road from me Send him a pm and he will give you a great price

He really knows his stuff and he isn't expensive, when he did the clutch on my old car it was over 4 years ago so I can't remember what he charged. He had a clutch for sale the other week so he may be able to do you a deal on that if he still has it

I'm in the same situation. Need a clutch for 350bhp. Will an Exedy standard replacement be Ok or will I need to go for an organic one?

Clutch is not a specialist job and any competant mechanic/garage will be able to fit it.

Just buy a decent clutch, suited to your torque output/use and have it fitted locally. If clutch is slipping the flywheel may well need skimming, so it's usually easier to pick up a spare one and have that skimmed. If you go to a specialist, that shouldn't be a problem.

Clutches and Lightweight Flywheels - Subaru Impreza

Uprated also available.

Exedy standard won't do 350 hp. BUT the APi uprated Exedy will. We alter a genuine STI Exedy that we buy in Japan, with a stronger material on the facing and then alter the clamping pressure on the flywheel.

The clutch is £295.00 + VAT and a matching lightweight flywheel sold exchange is £150.00 + VAT. We have plenty of stock of both and open again on Jan 4th.

Watch out for internet and Ebay offers there are many nasty stories about ' Exedy ' clutches that have been bought in these areas that seem to last a VERY short while .

Never yet changed one of ours under warranty for slip or judder......

David - APi 01926 614333

Derby is about an hour North of us.

Cool ! mine slips occasionally in 4th to 5th going full beans when 1.3+ bar is achieved.
Running c.320+/320+ I suspect it's the original clutch pre import (1995 STi) needs a more suitable part for the increase in bhp/torque anyway.

Dave : Just for your knowledge the OE clutch is organic and the uprated clutch is also organic. This refers to the friction plate material.
As 53WRX has found out the OE clutch will start to slip in the 320-340 ft.lbs area after a little bit of use so the OE clutch as a replacement at that power level is not acceptable. The clutches supplied by API do the job well and we know this from first hand experience.
