Controversial - LPG on A Type R doing 300-350 BHP
Hi All,
I have had a lovely intro to this forum. Now I have a 1997 version 3 Type R which I am loving apart from the way it likes to drink petrol.. Now I have had a few LPG cars and loved the cheap fuel..
I have a friend who has a normal UK 2000 turbo on LPG and it runs lovely and has done battleship miles... I know the Type R is a different beast which is why I am searching for anyone who has done this or on a similar BHP car...
I have done some research and so far the only issues is to make sure the LPG system can handle the Pressure.... and also there are many questions about the ol 'lpg running dry' but if this is a problem on scoobies you can put valvelube on.
According to all my phone calls it looks like the BRC or the PRINZ to be recomended for performance cars.. I will keep persuing this as It is sooo worth it.
Anyone here can help with the research or have had experience on LPG with performance cars?
Also the systems have improved considerably from 3 years ago, so If you did some research back then, it might be worth an update..
Look forward to hearing what you all think

Don't know about scooby's mate but have heard of a few skylines making serious power figures on lpg. A related google search to that might turn stuff up that may help?

There is a ratio that tells you how mpg the lpg will give you.(Not sure what the ratio is).
E.g. If you do 20mpg with petrol, lpg might be around 15mpg.
It is not as efficient hence you would need a big tank to get any decent range. which comprimises the boot space.
I suppose a stripped out car could have a tank where the back seat was!!??
I read an web site some time ago on this, it worked on an STI but his boot was filled up with the LPG tank.
I looked into this and made enquires about how to get a tank fitted at home, but the LPG supplier said my low usage was not worth their while, a minimum of 8 to 10 cars required.
A rally school in Wales runs his cars on LPG Scoobys included and he fitted the to the general public too.
