How many people have engine mods without a remap?

How many people have engine mods without a remap?
Just out of curiosity as I used to have a v3 sti with a vf34 turbo and a decat and magnex backbox and panel filter. I think it used to boost to 1.2bar and make 300bhp. It ran like that for 2 years without problems. Obviously having it mapped would of been the safest bet and freed up some more power but its not cheap for the v3 ecu upgrades but I understand the ecu upgrade is a lot cheaper than a rebuild.
I know there is someone on here running about 320bhp with no map and has done a high 12s qtr mile, but can't find him on here to ask him what he's done to his motor.

Why would you want to either risk the engine blowing up or at the very least not getting your money's worth out of any modification that you do ?
I don't understand that line of thought.
I see newages STi's where people have decated and they run appallingly lump and hesitant as the overboost/underboost cycle kicks in and potential risking everything for the sake of saving a few hundred quid on a remap. After the remap they release the potential and is a much more pleasurable (and safer) car to drive/own.

My Hawkeye was running 3" turbo back with sports cat and Green panel filter, did a run before mapping it was 250bhp and everything was spot on, however, now it is mapped it is a completely different car. Only made 278bhp but feels soooo much better.

I've had the sti that ran 300bhp for 2 years no probs and the other one with a few more mods and remap that had 322bhp but wasn't anywhere near as nice to drive and didn't put your head into the seat the same way as the vf34 unmapped one, but I bought that after it was mapped. Ran a 13.01 qtr mile in the wet though so would of been in the 12s in the dry.
If I were to have the v3 300bhp unmapped car back I'd get it remapped to release its full potential don't get me wrong. I was just more interested to see what people run without a remap and for how long.
I will say as well, I used to drive the unmapped one hard as well 150+ everytime I took it out (on the autobhan by the way).

depends on how far you go before getting it mapped.if you want to run more boost etc then obviously you will end up going bang but if your sensible like i have been then no probs.runs spot on and has been checked by alan jefferies son on the rollers.
i can keep up with cars running 300 bhp so why go further???
a lot of people on here are obsessed with having big bhp....

i have a 2002 wrx. It currently has a k and n 57i and a fully decatted 3" exhaust turbo back. Its run fine like this for about 6 months. However is goin into the garage on the 25th to get a td05 16g and a 3" decat uppipe fitted then a remap. Hoping that should free up some power and make it run better

Is that a typo re the 3 inch up-pipe - i hope it is as that with a 3 inch up-pipe the spool time will be best measured with a sun dial

I've got a v3 sti
Full de cat
Apexi intake
Matched restrictor pill as it was overboosting after de cat
It's running 0.9 bar a year almost with no issues
waiting for apexi pfc and get it maped as i can't say power delivery is very smooth and enjoyble to drive, it is still fast on the higher rpm , but just doesn't feel right on lows when u need the power.
Also the car is running very rich as u hear pops and bangs...
There is only one way to perfection = MAP it ...

yes im planning on getting injectors and a pump. I heard the walbro 255 is a good upgrade. Do you know if its universal or does it have to be model specific? As for the injectors i was going to go for the sti pink ones. I think they are the 550cc ones? I wont be getting these bits for a month or 2 tho. Do you think id be better off waiting till then to get the remap then i wont have to get it done twice. Im just a bit worryed about running the 16g for 2 month with no remap. Will it cause any probs? Cheers

Newage walbro 255 is universal yes.
Sti pinks are 550 ish and are what you need.
As far as remapping twice. I would only charge one full remap if done now then one tweak for when that turbo and injectors went on. If it is only a month and it isn't being nodded in the meantime I would wait. If it has been modded already then depending on what you have done it may be safer to remap it now. Happy to chat if you want to call.

TTS lads and lasses use Motoscope for dyno days and power runs.
Duncan is up this way fairly regularly.
