Selling 2 cars - any suggestions?

We're in the position of wanting (having?) to sell both cars, and I was wondering what peoples views are on the best way. The genuine reason you always see - well in this case it's a baby on the way, and the need for some spare cash.
I've never sold a car privately, always just traded in. This time because we've got 2 cars, I'm guessing a lot of garages won't take 2 as a trade in against 1 - could be wrong. The other issue here is 'normal' garages I've been at will trade the Scooby on, won't sell it themselves. This makes for a crap trade in price.
A local dealer, who sells Scoobys etc has been on the lookout for a cheaper car, and he'd also buy these 2 off us, and can source the cheaper car at a no trade in discounted price, but of course the price we're getting is nearer trade.
In case anyone interested by the way:
1999 S Reg Impreza Turbo 5dr
Dark Blue Met
27K
FSH
16" gold speedlines
usual toys/alarm, no aircon though.
dog guard
Sony single CD
Just had recent cambelt service, 1st MOT and new Toyos
2000 W reg Saxo VTR
Poseidon Blue Met
12K
FSH
Standard alloys
Alarmed
E/W, C/L, CD
Open to any reasonable offers and suggestions.
Cheers,
Mike.

I did manage to trade two cars for one.. I was very surprised that they offered to do it and we didn't get a great trade in price but we did get good discount off the target vehicle.. so difference to swap was palatable....
I truly hate selling anything to anybody... I find it a real demoralising job and so many ppl ring and make appointments and never turn up..... Grrrrr...
So I factored this lack of hassle into the deal.. and went for it..

Nappies don't cost that much. ditch the Saxo in Autotrader, I suspect a VTR will get snapped up, keep the Scooby for the babe.
Just think when he or she is 18, and talking with their mates about their wheels when they were born, a scooby is far more impressive than a Mondeo!!

Mattw is right, keep the Scoob, as you will need that "sensible" sized car for carting baby and all the gear around in.
You'll be suprised, babies dont cost that much money!!
Flog the Saxo and keep the Scoob, otherwise you may regret it!
Good luck with the baby, either way
Nick.

I'm glad I'm not the only one having problems getting rid of the Scooby.
I've spoken to a lot of local garages who don't want it - even as a part exchange. They keep telling me it's a specialist car and they won't be able to sell it. Euro import doesn't help but what the heck I got it cheap!
The best I've been offered is £13k trade-in against a Focus TDci.
MY00 (W), 4Dr, 13k, Euro Import, FSSH, As new.
What sort of figures are you being quoted?
I really want a Golf TDI 130/150 to reduce costs to pay for the new baby, new house, new job with extra travell etc. I like to getting things out of the way in one go!
All the other garages say they will ring around and call me back but no-one does!

DavidW,
That looks like a fantastic trade in at £13k. For a 18month old car which you bought at £16 000 (euro price guess) a £3k drop is excellent.

Thanks guys,
Alpine - funnily enough when we bought the Scooby a consideration was the room for a kid or 2. We had a Corrado then, but too small even for us + black lab.
The size of the Scoob is ok, nothing brilliant, but it's really down to money at the end of the day. Roughly speaking if we get rid of both, get something cheaper like a Vectra (pi$$ take all you like...), then we'll be saving enough each month to cover the mortgage, give or take a few £.
DavidW - we got offered £12k(Scoob) on a trade in, offered roughly £12k(Scoob) and £5.5k(VTR) buying outright, so not that much worse off than prices in Autotrader etc. Then consider the good deal we can get on the Vectra no trade in, less hassle etc and it looks ok.

Mike.. seeing all the stuff we've managed to buy for the baby I think a small truck would have been more in order... I can't see how we're going to be able to leave the house without a weeks planning and a couple of days packing!!!
Especially when I cram the cabin with all those gauges!
Good luck with whatever way it goes..
