getting a sport today
should be collecting a t reg sport, want to know wat mods i can do to up the lack of power and a rough price and wat kind of increase would i be looking at cheers

Well you can do the usual na upgrades, exhaust, filter and cams, plus get the brakes and suspension sorted, gains won't exactly be brilliant as these are only 123bhp out of the box for this year of car.

You'll be hard pressed to squeeze much power out of a NA boxer engine. My advice would be a 2.5" or 2.25" cat back exhaust system (leave the cats in, you need em for back pressure really) coupled with a decent aftermarket panel filter for your airbox - I'd reccommend Green.
MANY Sport owners also go for unequal length or "Borla" exhaust manifolds as these give the Sport that distinct Subaru "burble".
Besides that you can look at:
Handling - a rear anti-roll bar would be a good choice as Sports don't have one at all. You could also go for turbo or aftermarket lowering springs.
Brakes - some Sports only have 1-pot font brakes and DRUMS at the rears, so it's worth upgrading in this instance everytime. Check out breakers yards to get the bits you need. Stainless steel brake hoses by companies like Goodridge are also a very worthwhile imporovement on ANY car as they stiffen up the brake pedal. You CAN go further with braking improvements but there is little point when you aren't playing with that much power.
I'm not telling you how to spend your money, but from my experience, and a lot of people on .:ImprezaSport.net:., the above "performance" modifications are believed to be the only ones that are worth doing.
Oh and lastly, always keep the car serviced, using quality OEM parts (oil and fuel filters) and the best bits you can get hold of (NGK plugs, various top-brand oils etc) and the car will run as good as it can

A Sport Impreza is like paddling with your wellies on, not the same sensation!
I wouldn't waste any money on it. Buy a Turbo, they're old enough now to get cheaply, the only drawback might be the insurance and weekly petrol bill but this outways buying a Sport tenfold.

I cannot believe how rude and ignorant some people on here can be. Sports are a great way of getting into the Subaru marque, as they look and handle relatively similar to the turbos, and of course feature the brilliant AWD system. For many, including myself, they are a stepping stone to future turbo ownership, and provide you with a 'feel' of driving an Impreza, with a fraction of running costs of a turbo.
True, modifying them heavily is hopeless, but it's always worth taking time and money to subtley improve your car. And it's bloody good fun too.
So f*cking lay off.

funny NOT. i've had 2 wrx's last year and had nothing but problems with them and having two kids and a house to run the high insurance aint something i want or need, and the repair bills,

LOOK positive thoughts towards a sport, i am looking at changing a few things like the wheels and spoiler, but to be honnest driving it fast and throwing round corners i wont be doing as i carry my 1 and 3 year old in the car 99% of the time, cheers

We have a sport as a courtesy car. I spent ages looking for one, as against a whole load of turbos we could have bought! They have a number of advantages for sure, like being a damn sight cheaper to own, and I can lend it out without some hooligan blowing it up!
Tuning them isn't really productive, but you can make them look as good as any other classic, and that's what I'd do, safe in the knowledge that it'll cruise around the same as any other car.

Get real, if he's going to mod a sport to look like a WRX or sti his insurance will go up anyway. That why it false economy. Get a WRX/STI in the first place or go the cheaper option with a hot hatch.

As you have a NON TURBO, put Spiral Max fiitings inside your Air Pipes.
There are several trains of thought on here (watch out for the slaggers they WILL be along in a minute).
Put 1 (facing towards the bonnet) in your air intake by the air filter & 1 by the air intake by the paassenger side scoop (PM me & I will point out where this is).
They DO work with NON TURBOS, ikt's a bit like a Dyson really.
Roy Waggon on here BEFORE he bought a Turbo will probably confirm this.
So, Air Fiter, Spiral Max & away you go!!

Agree, as a former sport owner who has just got a wrx. I couldn't see the point of making it something it wasn't. I was always told to mod it but never did. Great handling and nippy but if you want power get a turbo. Great way to get on the impreza ladder though.

Well done on the sport mate, We used to have a guy on here called Connor, he had a lovely sport.
Dont be put of it by anyone, this is scoobynet, Not WRX or STi net. Keeping good imprezas on the road is the goal.

Sorry I forgot, they also do an Exhaust insert.
It works again it's for NON TURBOS.
Make sure you drill & tap it in orrrr, with the pressure it will blow out the back & you'll leave in on some road..

You're telling me to get real, it's not gonna increase the insurance by £1500 for a set of wheels and a couple of body parts is it? You can sell the parts on afterwards too, you never see your insurance money after it's paid unless you have a crash.
