***** like you bought one...
Besides if you read it properly there not loathed as in hating something for example - 'I Loath Sunny Side Up coz he/she seems like complete W**ker and a troll', but it's more about people being tight with their money and going for cheap cars and running costs but wanting a bit fun aswell.
"Number 2 - Subaru
This was a real shock to us, as Subaru has been the darling of many a JD Power survey. And for reliability you ranked them second only to Lexus. Unfortunately the only other glimmer of hope was a fairly good warranty.
So what are the reasons you loathe this car? Subaru cars ranked the worst on fuel, the most expensive to insure and have the fourth worst residual value when compared to their peers. Dig a little deeper and you will find a sporty Subaru Impreza will only be worth a third of its new price in three years, does 27 mpg, has £405 annual road tax and is in insurance group 18. Ouch.
Writer's says: Impreza STI is a darling of the playstation generation, but not for the lovemoney.com crew. It's expensive on every level; a used previous generation Honda Civic Type R is a fun alternative that won't break the bank.
Verdict: Ok cars but they'll make you pay!"

I have never felt embarrassed to own a Subaru.
Anyone who sells a car they enjoy just because of what they 'think' other people think of it need to have a good look at themselves IMO.
What do you drive now?
If someone offered you an RS4 or a M3 would you refuse it because of the 'image' of Audi/BMW drivers?
Sorry.... rant over

OK Moley ,I'll bite
I've had several Scoobs. Modded lightly and tastefully (imho) - when I got in to the "scene", I did it properly.
Then, it got to the stage where Ch@vs etc could afford them, and were/are driving them like d1cks. So much so that when you saw these "things", people would comment on "OMG, what the **** is that disaster? Oh it's one of those Subarus".... etc etc.....
When asked what I drive, I WAS embarrassed to say that I had a Scooby. Totally the wrong image I wanted.
Basically I grew out of the attention that the Impreza demands. I went on to an Audi S4 Avant, and modded that too. Subtle, and potent.
I've now got a Golf GTI mk5, modded.
As I said, I miss the sound of the Flat 4 through a Scoobysport every day, but would I ever have another Subaru Impreza? VERY VERY doubtful.
They've had their day.
if you don't understand the logic, well, that's your problem not mine. I only come back on Scoobynet, as I've made a lot of good friends on here. The fact that I'm not in a Scooby isn't an issue, in fact I would say that it's the opposite.

Have a look on the MLR. Lots of Evo 4/5's are now being bought by 'chavs'.
The amount of posts on there in text talk about racing others cars has increased massively.
You also have people with £30+ cars on there aswell. You can't tarnish everyone with the same brush.
I noticed you bought an Audi. Did the image of Audi drivers not bother you?
It is your choice what you drive, but don't get hung up on what you 'think' others opinion of your car is.
FWIW in my job i speak to Subaru owners all day, and the 'average' Impreza owner is in his mid 30's, works in IT, a homeowner, and is married.
Hardly what i'd call a chav.

I understand what you mean scoobydoo and this happened to a lot of other cars pug 205,renault 5gt turbo, fiesta xr2,escort rs turbo, sierra cosworth, xr4x4 all in the end were classed as `chav cars` would I want a mint example of any of them now Hell yes.
Do I care what people think when I drive my scooby NO life is to short to give a #### would I change because people disprove NO funny thing is as I get older the less I care what others think about me.

See, around Herefordshire, the age demographic seems to be MUCH lower (with exception to T5NYW - lot's of young uns with granted, Classics. And these are the ones that give all , including the the "grown up"/newer Scoobies, a bad name. And that's a crying shame, as I can say of all the cars I've owned, the Scoobs were some of my favourites.
I understand what you mean about the German aspect - I can honestly say in 3 years of Audi ownership, I never had a single negative aspect (apart from the bills!! ) - I did a lot of miles, and can only recall one run-in with "boy-racer". The car was a total Q-car. I LOVED this aspect.
The BMW -negative aspects are totally different. Audis are still seen in a different, more positive light.
FWIW, I have no doubt that the Classic will be just that. A classic. Like the 205s & Cossies etc. But I wouldn't have one again - I've just moved on (not up etc, just on )
And for the record, the image-issue wasn't the only reason why I got shot of the Scoob , but honestly, it was a probably the deciding factor. Another example really of a product ruined by its own success.

As the years go on the Classic will become just that - not the modded tat - but the original examples, with few mature owners and maybe even the original Subaru Radio/Cassette (yes, these little details add ££££££££££'s to the value!).

yeh, but let's be honest, Pete, YOUR'S won't be worth anything. Purely because YOU'VE owned it
How any self-respecting prospective owner could own PSLewis' car..... well, that is scary You'll have to mod it to hide the ownership facts

Anyway, 99.99% of future Subaru owners wouldn't know pslewis from sunnysideup from donald duck or even have heard of SN, let alone the NSR Forum - I realise I am king of a very, very small principality

Sighs... who did they survey for this ? . All the best things in life cost a little bit more like exotic holidays, designer clothes, malt whiskeys, high end electrical goods, etc. I strive for these and love not hate them. I dont want to get up in the morning climb in to my hyundi and go shopping to matalan, lidl and the pound shop, then go home and book ny summer holiday to some cravan park ffs. As Colin McCrae said you are her for a good time not a long time ,,,,, nuff said

i find it funny that people come on scoobynet and say there a chav car and thats why they sold theirs for an audi. today i had two audi's nearly hit me up the **** on the a3 as i was doing the speed limit in the pissing rain yet they think that they should ram me out the way, i also don't like them because my old next door neighbour has one and he's a ****.
i also agree with anger i get quite a few people old and young come and ask intelligent questions about the car as they see it as a specialist vehicle,
just to tell you i'm 21 and have an impreza wrx, its not chavvy it was actually bought as a project to do up but it seems to be the mentailty of most to think that anyone under the age of 28 wants lexus lights, 5 subs and flashing green neons all over it.
