Default hi, scooby on pistonheads???

hi all, im new to the forum... im a current audi tt owner but im thinking of purchasing an impreza STI. i have a few questions though. ive been looking at an imported STI on pistonheads, i went to look and test drive it the other day, it seems fine but on the log book it says its a WRX model and not an STI. Is this normal?? also the insurance company class it as a WRX so therefore cheaper insurance. can anyone help?! Also...the car is based in Stoke, ive put a link on underneath to the pistonheads ad, could people have a quick look and see what they think? and does anyone know the history of the car? i.e. someone on here??

Subaru : 2001 Impreza WRX STI **323 BHP / 325 LPFT **MANY EXTRAS**

many thanks, Mark.

Dont know the history but it is a JDM STI import and not a WRX so if you do get it then insure it as an STI and you can ask DVLA to change what it is on the V5 doc.

cheers, the insurance goes up to £980 if its an STI whereas it will be £600 if its left as a WRX!

Its an STI, look at pic 9 and pic 3, pic 3 clearly shows a rear wiper, not applicable on UK cars plus the dark rear and back glass, pic 9 clearly shows the STI clocks, sti steering wheel and 6 speed gearstick, also the adjustable lights, interior is STI etc
JDM01 STI.

What Tony said, with the addition that it's not an "STi spoiler". It's an aftermarket Rallytech "44S"-style spoiler of the type that was popular when the bug came out (and cheap copies of which are flogged on eBay by countless different suppliers).

Maybe it is a WRX - but if it is, it appears to have not only the wheels and interior, it looks like it has everything else it needs to be a kosher STi too. Applied model code would be the only way to be absolutely certain how it started life, but on the face of it, there's no reason to believe it isn't what it looks like.

yeah i noticed it wasnt a genuine sti spoiler, which is part of what made me think it was a wrx. To me it just doesnt look like an sti. It looks like a chaved up wrx.

Do you understand that some of the early JDM new age STI's came with a low level spoiler?
That is definately an STI

I do wish you guys would listen to Tony. IMO he is spot on.

An imported JDM STI. Chaved up WRX indeed LOL!

Not uncommon for them to be on the V5 as a WRX, but I really wouldn't insure it as a WRX as for the sake of £300 or so you could find yourself uninsured in the event of an accident. And that can bring serious trouble.

As tony and midlife say looks like an STi

Although all thing mechanical can be changed

Sti had noticable over the WRX

Projector lights
6 speed box
Shift light & buzzer
Brembo Gold Brakes
330bhp

JDM Model codes on chassis Plate

Bug eye WRX MY00 has a model code GDAA4DD
Bug eye WRX Sti MY00 has a model code GDBA4EH
Bug eye WRX MY01 has a model code GDAB4DD
Bug eye WRX Sti MY01 has a model code GDBB4EH

IIRC

STi.

Check brakes, pads and tyres. can end up expensive to replace.

Also did you think it was loud because of the de-cat??? on mine it used to get on my nerves a bit after a long drive and the family did not like the loudness.

looks like a good car though.
