WHAT OIL SHOULD I USE IN MY 1995 WRX IMPORT!
#2
Engine Oil, Car Oil, Gearbox oil, Gear Oil and lubricants for motorsport from Millers Oils
CFS 10w50
DESCRIPTION:
Competition full synthetic engine oil. Formulated with 100% synthetic base fluids, including a synergistic blend of three esters combined with latest additive technology for maximum performance.
APPLICATION:
Use as received for competition, modified and high performance engines.
Suitable for all normally aspirated and turbo-charged engines from 2 litres upwards.
USER BENEFITS:
• Fully synthetic oils provide many outstanding performance benefits over conventional mineral oils.
• By utilising both polyalphaolefins (PAO) and ester synthetics specially selected to minimise the amount of
polymer used, the lubricant film provided is more resistant to ‘shear’ and viscosity loss in highly stressed
areas.
Full synthetic oil provides:
• Load carrying capacity many times that of mineral oil.
• High film strength for ultimate protection.
• Outstanding cold flow properties for reduced wear at start up.
• Excellent thermal stability and oxidation resistance.
• The synergistic blend of three esters gives improved lubricity, reducing friction and enhancing the oils
performance.
• CFS 10w50 is especially suited to modified, high performance vehicles, with or without turbochargers, for fast road and track day use.
PERFORMANCE PROFILE:
• Manufactured to far exceed the requirements of API SL/CF and ACEA A3/A4.
• Suitable for operating at 125°C with peak temperatures up to 150°C.
• For fast road use or track days in engines where a 10w40 is normally specified.
TYPICAL CHARACTERISTICS:
SAE Viscosity Grade 10w50
Specific Gravity @15°C 0.869
Kinematic Viscosity @100°C 19.0cSt
Kinematic Viscosity @40°C 125cSt
Viscosity Index 205
Pour Point °C -25
Flashpoint °C 200
Cold Crank Viscosity@ -25°C 7,000cP
HEALTH AND SAFETY:
Health and Safety Data Sheet 6253 applies to this product. When used for the purpose recommended and with
due regard to the appropriate Health and Safety Data, the product should cause no concern. If in doubt, consult
with Millers Oils Technical Department.

The thing with oil weights is the no,without the w is at operating temp, which is meant to be 100 degree C,but on most of my journeys the temp is at 90-95 for alot of it,so im guessing my 10/40 oil is really 10/50 (as it doesnt get hot enough to thin to its lowest viscosity of 40)
and the guys using 10/60 if their oil doesnt hit 100 degrees C then really they are even thicker as it hasnt had chance to thin no lower than 60
its all complicated stuff !!!
unless i have totally mis understood the whole oil viscosity thing, probably !!!

From: 1600cc's of twin scroll fun :)
10 is the cold oil temp, 60 the hot, it will take a few years for a 60 to get up there, hence stick to a 40 or 50
And just because "alot" of tuning co's use a 10w60 oil doesnt mean its correct or the best to use.
The people who have tested this engine more than all those companies added together is FHI

Subaru themselves recommend 5w 30 but nobody uses that???

oil thins when its hot but the tested temp is 100 degrees c,so a rated 10w/60 oil will not get any Thinner than 60 when its upto temp,(100 degrees c)so its always going to be thick, hence what i was saying about a 10/60 oil at -5 being very thick and taking a long time for the engine to get to 100 degrees so its going to be like treacle in the block on a short journey when in the - temps

60 is truly madness for a road car ...... 40 is fine - 60 at these winter temperatures is a hell of a drag on your engine and power sapping.
I used 50 in my Calibra one year ..... the engine felt so lazy and revved slower than normal - switched back to 40 and it was like a sewing machine ..... the difference was so noticeable.
Unless you are tracking your car on the equator in a 24 hour endurance trial, forget 50 or 60 ...... stick with what Subaru says - 40!
