I have an afterburner vortex on my car,and it sounds awesome honstly,if i were to change it, only system i would consider is the blitz nur spec r,expensive but one of the best sounding exhaust out there imho ,and before anyone says it to loud ,thats what the removable bung is for. Bung out - basshead mode, bung in - stealth mode.

85 Decibels, well according to the Health and safety regs this is the daily or weekly upper exposure action level so you need to be wearing hearing protection you naughty boy

This includes 3" decat downpipe, 3" straight centre section & 3" backbox to a 5" rear. I could post some video clips over the weekend of it idling etc if you like. let me know what you think. The exhaust was fitted to mine in December but its too loud (kids in the car) I bought it Brand new (have receipt somehwhere)
Thread below of when i was fitting it in Dec, has only covered about 500miles from new.

I'd imagine that the high polish throughout is for the concours cars.... or to make people aspire to have this system over otheres?!?! Marketing stratergy.
I dont recall anyone saying what BHP they had....
cockneymfc has been quite frank about his intentions for the exhaust size, so i guess he's been doing a little bit of investigation? and who's to say the car is standard.

sorry to side track but is there a noise limit by law/mot for a street car as i just taken the baffel out of my blitz nur spec ( just noticed it had one) so its alot louder now
it was 85db on idle with it in, is there bd limit?

Im running close to 320 if not over, and once ive finished with the car in a few weeks i ought to be close to 340 or 350 at a push. So im under the impression that 3" is good for my set up??? whats your view (running a VF30)
Once ive sourced a 3" replacement backbox that is quieter than minei its off.... Its alright for track use and if you enjoy the everyday boom all the time which im guessing most people that own a scoob do, but for me its toooo loud.
I'll certainly be sourcing a quieter backbox or full system if need be, so mine will be up for grabs. I noticed that someone was selling a Nur spec on here earlier, but again i believe these are very loud too. any opinions?

If you are going anywhere near a track don't buy the NurSpec. Yes it sounds lovely but it won't pass noise testing. On my MY95 STi 555 I just replaced my Apexi 3" system for a H&S original scooby Sport system 94db and sounds awesome. Retained the 3" DP and adapted to catback 2.5" runs smoother and torquier which is what I expected and wanted for the way the car drives, ratios, usage etc. Power 320+320+.

H&S much better for purpose, albeit a bit of a weeener...
On my MY06 STi SpecD I run an OEM size H&S sports cat, H&S full DP back 2.5" decat to a STi BB then Nurspec Type S'. Noisy but never tested @Db. Rolling roaded 335/345 Road Dyno'd 335/375. VF43.
Set up with system + STi BBox...

Changed to Blitz BB NurSpec S...

I was thinking of getting a 2.5in afterburner extreme back box. Does anyone have a sound clip of 1 to give me an idea of how loud my car might be with 1 on.

You will find that if the police pull you over they can do an exhaust db test, my girlfriends brother had a spoon exhaust on his honda civic type r and he was ordered to take it off. His was 106 db and it was supposed to be 95

It's only the upper exposure level if you are continuously exposed for 8 hours per day Any less exposure and you are fine.
Every 3 decibels is a doubling in sound (noise) so every 3 extra decibels halfs the exposure time. 88dB = 4 hours 91dB = 2 hours etc etc
To complicate matters even more it also depends on the distance from source, doubling the distance halfs the dB level.
