It depends how far you want to mod you car...

What sort of power are you wanting?

Hi Phil,

I'd say the main advantages are a possible MAFless set up, anti lag and launch control.

I would suggest a phonecall to JGM however as he seems very knowledgeable and trust worthy on SIMteks mate

personally i think the map and drive is much smoother than ecutek and i'm glad i no longer have to worry about the **** my99 maf and have removed the maf housing on the intake
also twin maps is a bonus, i have a low boost 95 ron map in case i get caught short
antilag is fun but its pretty mild apparently and not tried the launch control yet
all in all its quite a lot of money but i feel a bit more future proofed when i come to move to the next stage

cheers
matt

Alot of money if your not wanting much more power and not wanting to go down the road of changing the internals, 320/320 is nice power for a road car, do u use it as a every day car? if so id spend money makeing it safer... uprate the oilpump bigger brakes maybe buy a spare maf or second hand ecu

starts getting expensive after 350bhp im this min looking 4 a 6 speed gearbox NOT cheap

hope iv not put u off

If I were you I would stick with the ECUTEK and talk to one of the mappers about the new Race Rom software etc. Not sure if it's available for MY00 but I would definitely look into what you can do to improve what you have.

Who is doing it at this price??, would be interested if its true!!

I too am in a similar situation to the OP but have already gone down the route of forged internals, however do not plan on upgrading anything else at the moment due to gearbox limitations and additional cost.

Although if there is a power benefit to fitting the Simtek over the Ecutek I would like to know. Maybe Jolly Green Monster can shed some light on this?

Racerom - only going to be available for drive by wire 05+ cars.

The simtek will be smoother due to the faster processor and higher defintion maps.

the timing is also in 0.1degree increments rather than whole degrees of the 99 ecu therefore it can be tuned nearer to most power without issues with det etc..

main advantage is antilag, mafless (99 not good on mafs) and will drive smoother.

Anyone doing them for £600 is not going to be making much money and therefore unlikely to spend the time required to set the car up properly and answer any questions you may have befgore and after.. it is easy to get focused on the price and forget that you need to trust the person mapping it, that they know what they are doing.

Simon

I would stick with the Tek.

Anti-lag, launch control etc pretty pointless IMHO on a 320bhp car.

£1000 could be spent more wisely to make the car go quicker.

it's an ECU...probably the most popular choice before Simtek and Solaris...dosen't have bling features like launch control and anti lag but it does have full knock control unlike the Simtek. The Commander is a plug in handset that allows you to reprograme the ECU on the fly and displays quite a lot of useful info.

only selling mine as I need a Solaris to control my AVCS heads
