Question How much to transport a car?

I need to get a car from Cornwall to Hertfordshire next week and wondered if anyone knows how much it would roughly cost to get it transported to me and who would be the best people to use.

Anyone?

I'm off work next week. £100 + expenses and I'll test the rev limiter on it in every gear for free (except top unless I can find a really long road)

Can't you take the train and drive it back?

I just flew to Glasgow to pick up a Jeep and it was a cracking drive home

shiply.com like ebay but reverse, you tell them what you want collected and taken to and from etc, and people bid for your custom, you accept lowest price if you want to. free to advertise too

I just found them when i googled but it might be cheaper to get the train there and drive back unless i can get it transported 240 miles for under £100

You can also fly to Newquay from Gatwick - checkout Airsouthwest, sometimes there are good deals to be had. Great view flying into Newquay too (if the visability is good!).

best off getting down here then driving it back, i've done it before try the bus aswell, can take ages but sometimes silly cheap, if you've found a train ticket for 40 notes then get it, 40 for fuel on the way home and you've done it for a ton simples

I think i will get the train down, 5 and a half hours, only an hour longer than driving

Foof going by plane, its nearly 2 hours to get to the airport unless they fly from Luton

If you have breakdown cover, you can get them to bring it back for you.

Tell them you were driving down to your friends house when all off a sudden the brakes stopped working completely. The Brake pedal seems fine now but you don't trust the drive back without getting them checked out by your local garage.

Intermitant brake fault is something they WILL HAVE TO recover the car for and it won't cost you a penny.

It will be about £250 so its not worth it then. The train is far cheaper

Plane is £170 so out of the question.

After driving to Cornwall there and back i was foofed. It cost me £100 in petrol. The sat nav gave me 4 and half hours and i had to do at least 90 to get there in that time. My head was banging and my ears ringing by the time i got home and i ache all over today.
The train is 5 and a half hours but what do you do on a train for all that time?

Have a look in NSR at my "weekend adventure" thread. Train, plane then drove home - 7 hours Saturday and about 4 on Sunday. I was a bit tired I have to say!

Cardiff to Glasgow was £80 on the plane and a tenner for the train. Cost £105 to get the Jeep home which isn't bad for a 4 litre

Get the train. The drive home will give you the best opportunity to get used to the car and whether your going to be able to put up with those coilovers!

Pah, that's nothing, i drove 680 miles to get my new car the other week, 340 miles there, sorted all the paperwork had a pee then drove 340 miles home again
P.S. That was driving from Devon/Cornwall border to cheshire.

I am looking forward to the drive back but not if its dark. You did well to do it so cheap. I have flown from Luton to Glasgow on EasyJet years ago and it was only £30.

Its no fun driving for 9 hours with a 5" exhaust though.

I should imagine, if you've got a 5" exhaust, you would have trouble holding it in!
