Default WRX ENGINE INTO STI?????

bit of a strange question i know but, i have just brought a 1994 wrx wagon for £500 with the intention of breaking it to help fund the repair of my v2555 sti as the engine let go some time ago.

the engine in the wrx has only covered 50k miles and is perfect condition, totally standard and still limited, and i am seriously tempted to put that engine in my sti, then i can re build my original engine over time to a better spec as and when i can afford it while still having the scoob to smoke about in.

will the wrx engine go straight in without any mods??
sorry if its a stupid question lol

as above it will fit just make sure you use the ecu and turbo from the car you take the engine out of.

Indeed.

Lesser engines being fitted to higher spec cars

Converting AWD to FWD

How about someone converts an STI to normally aspirated

I dont think there is much mechanical difference on the early cars, I dont think the early sti's had forged pistons, just solid lifters.

Reminds me of when my BIL bought a 1275 Mini only to find after a few weeks that it had a 900cc engine in it

i dont see the problem. a pre96 wrx will run perfectly fine with a sti ecu. the map is not much more agressive. the turbos are the same. do it mate.

the turbos arnt the same the sti has a tdo5 and the wrx wagon has a tdo4 so unless the op is swapping the original turbo from his engine to the new one, it wont work safely.

didnt the sti wagon have a td04? hence the lower power of the sti wagon? and the wrx wagon he brought will have a td04.
but yes he needs to make sure he matches turbo and ecu, be it td04 or td05

My 1995 wrx wagon's got a tdo5 turbo. I tought that thay made both version's tdo4 and tdo5. Just put a z4 ECU on seem's to fine witch is only mapped for tdo5. Id do it should run fine, like MY94WRX said use the turbo and ecu off the engine your useing all will be well.

would the injectors be the same as the sti like said ? also turbos are different
also? as said if you just transfer complete engine and turbo which make sense just swap the ecu for now till you get the other one sorted you should be ok then

i still think the sti wagon had a td04, thats why they were down on power to the saloon. 260ps vs 275ps. othewise sti wagon and saloon would have same power.

the sti wagon defiantly had a tdo5 turbo fitted as standard the wrx wagon had the tdo4 fitted as standard, the power difference is down the maps not the turbo,
for comparison both early uk saloon and wagons had the tdo5 turbo from the factory, but produced no where near the same power.

so if they had a tdo5 why don't they make the same power as a sti saloon or wagon?
