Question what to ask?

Hi guys first time on this. was thinking of going for a impreza wrx v-limited turbo (1996)

im fairly new to the turbo scene so dont know much about them or scoobys in that matter. last cars iv had have been the clio sport 182 and pug 206 gti.

is their anything i should be looking out for in these or questions i should be asking?

any help would be much appreciated.

Graeme

Where are you based?, might be worth going along to a meet if there are any near you and getting to know the people and vehicles, I'm sure someone would'nt mind going along to look at any potential purchases with you

What sort of a driving experience are you after and what are your future plans for the car you get?.

I think the car your looking at is a V3 STI, good base for power mods. I'd look at the rust on the rear arch, and either haggle to get it done yourself or get it done in a agreed price with the buyer, if the rust is'nt too far gone!.

Check to see when the timing belt was last done and what service history the car has done. The oil should be changed every 3000-4000 miles if it has been looked after, and check to see how the seller drives the car on the test drive. Does he let it warm up before hard acceleration and how does he let it cool down after a spirited drive.

Happy hunting!!

yeh iv noticed from watching my mate in his evo 8 that he lets it warm up before puttin the boot down and then lets it cool down 10 mins before switching it off. the rust wouldnt be a problem if its not bad as i know a few ppl who can repair these at a good price. ill have a word with the guy and see whats what then take it from their.

If its an import find out if its what fuel its been run on or if its been mapped and proof of it - jap impreza's are mapped for 100ron fuel over there so check that out

100 ron fuel first appeared in 1999 in Japan, but it's still worth checking to see if it's been mapped to run on regular 95ron unleaded or super unleaded 98-99 ron.
V3-4 STI's ran a slightly more aggressive map and if not mapped for uk fuel should be run on Tesco or Shell 99ron petrol and octane booster for piece of mind and engine longevity

Nearly everybody on this site is friendly and helpful. I came from a BMW/ALPINA background and could 'nt believe the difference when I came to Scoobynet. There's always a previous thread or someone willing to help with any problems or questions you may have.
With regards to your purchase, have you checked out the for sale section on here?

Good luck with your car hunting!
