I belive it can only be had with an aftermarket ECU i;e Simtek,Solaris.

I personally dont see the point in having it if you only drive on the road or occasional trackday. If you do lots of 1/4 mile stuff then it maybe worth having.

Plus it puts a massive amount of strain on the drivetrain when it's used.

all the above is very true but if you get a car woth it already fitted and only play with it once in a while on a greasy road or with wet tyres then it is a hole load of fun. i hav eonly done it twice but it did make me smile

You can get it on the Ecutek too. I have it on my 04 STi, never used it though. Like my clutch too much.

I can add it to all newages too with open source as part of remap process.

Works well for launches (surprisingly )

The one i've seen with the Simtek is connected to the neutral switch on the gearbox. So put the car in neutral then select 1st (Launch control engaged) Then build the revs up and you get a few bangs out the back then just leave the clutch out quickly (or sidestep it) and hey presto your clutch has lost 3k miles

It is good fun but only if you have the cash for clutches all the time and maybe the odd gearbox and driveshaft

If you got a decent clutch then don't worry about it too much, I've got it on my car I don't think I have ever used anti lag but launch control is A must to me best thing since sliced bread.
